TERMINÉ
The project “Friendship overcomes differences” is a cross-cultural exchange(Mobility project for young people) in which two groups from Werkgroep Bulgarije in Wijk & Aalburg(Nl) will visit and work together with the young people from the social homes in Roman and Stara Zagora in the period 21.07 - 09.08.2014. 31 Dutch and 29 Bulgarian young people, at the age 14-30 (students, employees and workers) will take part in the event. There are 24 underprivileged participants in it.
The project aims at establishing a good cross-cultural relationship and dialogue by focusing on European citizenship and identity of both cultures. Through informal study the young people will learn more about each other and will build trust which will stimulate their active citizenship, responsibility and tolerance among the European youth. The topic about the youth unemployment will be discussed along with the means to overcome it. The values of volunteering will be fostered
To achieve the set aims the project will provide: round table discussions about the role of the of the young people in shaping the European Union's future and development; youth unemployment, role plays and role-exchanges, art workshop and sessions, power point presentations for Holland, Bulgaria and EU, visits to natural, historical and cultural places, working together on refreshing the homes by painting and making drawings on the walls, field work, reflection on the volunteer management. The participants will develop social and professional skills and will get more competencies for the common labour market.
The participants will investigate what unites them, what they have in common and what can make them friends. The common denominators and values will help them be more tolerant toward their differences and aware of their similarities. The informal atmosphere in which they will communicate will foster good will and mutual understanding. The skills which they will acquire will help them strike friendships, strengthen their solidarity and respect. This will bring them closer and will promote social cohesion and cooperation in their common European Home.
The basic method of the project is informal education which will employ volunteer work, active participation, team work, stimulating enterprise and initiative in taking decision and responsibility. The social and personal developments of the participants will be encouraged/ stimulated. The control and evaluation will be exerted through thorough supervision.
The mutual participation of the young people is an opportunity for them to acquire competence and wisdom in the communication with other cultures. The project will support the underprivileged young people to get self-respect and self-confidence and will teach the Dutch volunteers tolerance and compassion toward people in need. Working in informal atmosphere the young people will realize that regardless of their seeming differences they share a lot of things in common because they are young and live in a common European home, share the same values and ambitions for the future. The better they get to know each other the faster they will overcome their differences and will learn to respect and value each other. And this will make Europe a better place to live and develop.
