Six volunteers from Spain, Germany and Macedonia, during two periods of 9 months each, will be actively involved in the project work with three local institutions: Dailycare centre for children with disabilities, Centre for the elderly № 1, and Center for the elderly № 3 in Kazanlak. The project will give to the volunteers the opportunity to be involved in the daily activities of the hosting organization and its partners, which activities are aiming at increasing the tolerance and empathy towards the children and youth that are different from the others, more respect for the elderly, and change of the social attitudes towards the people with disabilities. The last goal will be popularization of the activities of the mentioned organizations. By realizing various activities, especially art and music therapy, the volunteers will be able to educate various children to be tolerant towards all people seeming “different”, and to be friendly to all other children. Besides, the volunteers themselves will have the chance to learn more about the children with disabilities raised in family environment and all difficulties in their living. The volunteers working on the project will be engaged with the elderly people. The hosting organization has been working on a campaign focused on raising the tolerance towards the elderly. The campaign has been based on the idea that there should be a dialogue between the generations, for the elderly were young, and the young will become elderly people. The campaign involved Centres for the elderly № 1 and 3. The European dimensions of the project are revealed in the application of some principles of the EU in the field of youth, including increasing the entrepreneurship skills of the young people, their motivation to be active as citizens, and the skills to adapt themselves to their environment and to communicate with children with disabilities as well as to be tolerant to the elderly. Various meetings with specialists in different fields will be organized according to the needs and interests of the volunteers. The project will be popularized for the wide audience through preparing the internet newsletter “The(y) Volunteers”. In conclusion, the essence of the project is to be found in the principle of intercultural education and dialogue between generations, as well as the principle of life-long learning. The philosophy of EVS will be disseminated amongst the local community and the young people will be encouraged to take part in the programs of the EU by presenting their own creativity and raising awareness to the diversity of cultures in Europe and the need it to be protected. Special emphasis will be put on the care for people with special needs and disabilities, including their entertainment and education.
