An increasing number of students at the Higher Commercial Examination Programme at Aarhus Business College wish to pursue careers in international companies and will be competing in a global labour market for attractive jobs. Therefore, students request more and more possibilities for acquiring international competences during their studies as well as more international study programmes as a vast number of our students attending the Higher Commercial Examination Program wish to improve their possibilities of attending English study programmes offered by Danish Universities or taking part of their education at a university in another country. As a consequence of students’ increasing demands for more international study programmes, the college wishes to enhance and develop teachers’ language competencies and cultural understanding.
Three teachers needs to improve their English fluency. Two of the teachers have a financial background (cand.merc. and M.SC. in EU Business and Law) whereas the third holds a Master in European Studies. They will all be teaching Sales in English at the Global Marketing Programme and they all master the terminology in terms of finance and marketing, however, they all need to develop and improve their fluency to enhance the quality of their lectures.
One teacher will be going to Vienna to do a course in Austrian history and culture. Last year, a group of students reluctantly went on a study trip to Vienna. However, they returned as very persuasive ambassadors for this new destination. The college hopes that future study trips to Vienna could be a new way of introducing and engaging students in the German language and Germany.
The international coordinator at Aarhus Business College is to attend the course: "Preparation of Proposals and Management of European Education Projects under Erasmus +" to be abreast of the situation when the colleges will be applying for and participating in European Strategic Partnerships.
The anticipated impact on the organisation relates to the teaching of English at the Global Marketing Programme, to inspiring and engaging students in German classes as well as to developing facultys’ intercultural competencies to enable to college to enter into KA2 partnerships. The same applies to the international coordinator whose project management competencies needs developing to gear the organisation to enter strategic partnerships in the future.
