The project Work Experience (Praktikum International) 2014 will be realized by the assigned teachers of the Vocational College Meschede in cooperation with Partnership Europe in Ireland and the ADC College in London. The aim is the organization of mobility for students of the commercial college (Höhere Handelsschule) and trainees in industrial management, merchants in wholesale and foreign trade and office clerks. The students will have the opportunity to develop their cross-cultural skills. Further aims are the development of European mobility and the improvement of professional language skills. The involved teachers of the Vocational College Meschede together with the ADC College have developed a three week long program that will offer about 40 trainees the chance to take part in a one week long language course focused on business communication. Afterwards they will do a two week long practical training in a London based partner firm. This will expand the learning opportunities at the Vocational College Meschede so that the trainees will be prepared for an increasingly international European work environment. Furthermore we hope for the development of trainees´ personality and the strengthening of European values like broad-mindedness and tolerance. The aim of the project is to increase the participants´ confidence in their capabilities, to promote international mobility, to reduce language barriers and finally to exchange vocational skills. The program in Cork will differ from the description above, as the stay abroad for Commercial College students will be four weeks long (one week language course and three weeks practical training). It will be in July because the other Commercial College students will be doing their national practical training during that time. The possibility to enable students of the Commercial College to take part in a practical training in other European countries is an important element for the Vocational College Meschede to strengthen its profile and to take a step in direction of becoming an European school, which is a middle-term aim. The students of the Commercial College will finish their course with a degree to enter a college of higher education. The practical training abroad will greatly improve their qualifications and increase their opportunities on the labour market. The trainees will have European mobility as a vantage for their future training companies. Europe is growing together and the number of local companies that are operating internationally is growing, so the future trainees gain additional qualifications in order to compete on the international labour market by becoming a highly qualified employee. Nowadays the number of students is sinking. Therefore the cooperation of all participants in the project offers the chance for the Vocational College Meschede to be attractive and to have a pool of motivated young people as its students and trainees.
