Storhamar Upper Secondary School is a regional school in Hamar, Hedmark county. The school has its origin in Hamar municipal housewife school which was established in 1917 with branches in several places. From August 2015 we collocated to a large new school. The school offers both vocational and general studies, as well as sports. This application is aimed at students of health and youth development and restaurant and food processing.Hedmark county has a low completion rate for students at their Upper Secondary Schools and Storhamar is one of those schools that is struggling with high student absence. Are we going to improve the completion rate by reducing absenteeism we also need to focus in other ways. We believe that our project where students have the opportunity to practice training in another country, through the subject “PTF” (depth study project), can help strengthen the students' motivation to complete their education they have started in VG1.Our school has participated in international projects since 2002. The cooperation started this year with the Střední scholastic hotelnictvi a gastronomie Czech. This is one of eleven Coop schools in this country. We have continued our good and stable cooperation with this school these years. In addition, we extend our application to include cooperation with Střední odborne uciliste a Střední odborna scholastic Znojmo, Czech Republic and EIE Institute of Education, Mosta, Malta. Representatives from both schools in the Czech Republic participated in collaborative meetings at Storhamar Upper secondary School in November 2014. Both Czech schools can facilitate good jobs where our students get challenges and tasks in their respective fields. After a successful pilot project in Mosta, Malta in January 2015, we would like to send students from Health Care Worker, Children and Youth studies and Food Processing here. And possibly also from the Skin Care Program. We are aiming to be able to travel with 18 students Spring 2017, divided into three destinations that are described in this application .In this project period we would like to send students from Child and Youth work studies, Health Care, Skin Care program and Restaurant and food processing to Prague, Znojmo and Malta. We would like to send two students from the Skin care project, two students from Health Care Worker and two students from Restaurant and food processing to Znojmo. For Prague we are aiming at two students from each of the following program studies: Health Care worker, Child and Youth care and Restaurant and Food program. The leaders at our school have decided that two teachers should travel to each place. There will be 12 accompanying persons in this project. We know that this is a high number of accompanying persons, but it is still a decision we think is well planned and made with good reasons. We are sending out students from respectively three and four different program areas. We see that close mentoring of the students in their work practices improve their learning outcomes. We also find that having teachers from each program area present, this will lead to a higher level of motivation and learning outcomes, for both the students and the teachers. All students in the VG1 program will fill out a questionnaire at the beginning of the school year and also right after the trip abroad. The purpose of the form is to find out whether or not the students will report increased self-esteem, cultural awareness, language mastery and motivation of secondary education. The Students at our school will already on the first day of school be presented to our international work. Early in the school year, students will participate in a survey asking, cf. point I3. Students who get to participate must write an application and go through an interview as described in the application. Preparation time will be in a period ranging from December 2016 to March, April 2017. During this period, they will focus on formulating their own goals related to their program in the curriculum. We will also spend time working with the cultural aspect. This will apply both to meeting people, systems and procedures in a foreign work situation, as well as having the opportunity to experience a little of what the place has to offer for tourists. We expect our students to get more confidence and motivation to complete secondary education. We expect that our school's reputation will increase so that we get more motivated students. We also hope that we are able to develop a close and good cooperation with relevant schools in the Czech Republic and Malta. The working life in Hamar will achieve skilled workers with international experience. Young people from countries with high youth unemployment can get a job in Norway. To sum this up, we believe that our project will lead to a higher level of motivation, and from this a lower percentage of drop-outs at Storhamar Upper Secondary school.
