Because of the blatant lack of skilled stuff in the geriatric care and the fact that most of our students are 35 years and older, the „VIA Berufsfachschule für Altenpflege“ decided at its foundation, to focus on „health promotion and prevention“ within the education. This decision is based on the consideration, that self-responsibility for the own health, learned and internalized over the years, maintains after the education is finished and therefor sickness absence days are reduced. Simultaneously we expect that our students function as multipliers and carry their „health conciousness“ into the practice. To achieve this goals we need an atmosphere of learning and teaching, in which our profile is lived actively. Curricular anchorage, learning and teaching design, school atmosphere, also fitness activities have to be planned and especially accepted by each participant. Furthermore we expect that each educator involved in the advanced training ( three nurse-educators, one social scientist and one physiotherapist), provides new ideas and strategies as well as integrates them methodical/ didactical into the lessons to improve them. Contacts, to others academic institutions or educational centres, which possibly arise as part of the advanced training could lead to an international exchange of our staff or students.
