Possibilities and Problems of LGBTQI movement in Eastern Europe

The planned youth seminar is a networking meeting, dealing with the possibilities and problems of LGBTQI (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Intersexual) movement in Eastern Europe. The aim of the project is to bring together people who are active in different LGBTQI initiatives, NGO-s and social movements in order to share information about the situation of LGBTQI rights in their respective countries (with a particular focus on Baltic States), to define common struggles and envision future strategies. A further aim of the project is to strengthen collaboration between different LGBTQI initiatives in Eastern Europe, and, in the local context, to provide a platform for fruitful discussions related to the LGBTQI rights in Estonia. The seminar will consist of project presentations and discussions: in the beginning of the seminar, the representatives of participating LGBTQI organizations and initiatives will introduce their practice along with a general description of the situation of LGBTQI rights in their respective countries; the introduction phase is followed by moderated discussions on particular topics, such as a critical analysis of various forms of homophobia, struggles related to the legalization of same sex marriages (in Estonia and elsewhere), issues related to transgender and intersexuality, discussions about the neighboring zones of art and activism.
