Porvoo Youth Services go International
Date du début: 1 nov. 2016, Date de fin: 31 août 2017 PROJET  TERMINÉ

Porvoo Youth Services wants to add and emphasize more internationality in its action and function. The youth of today live in an increasingly international world, but on a practical level, only a few have direct contact with youth from different countries. With the EVS-volunteers we want to bring the world closer to the youth of Porvoo, in practical and concrete level. For the volunteers we can offer a versatile of work with the young people in Porvoo. At the same time, all parties get to know each others cultures, through a foreign language and by doing things together. Porvoo Youth Services has got a lot of experience of the two previous EVS-projects we had. We have learned many things how to manage EVS-project. The EVS-volunteers are offered great opportunities to get to know billingual culture in Porvoo, in the second oldest town in Finland. Porvoo has a wide and good cultural supply. There are also leisure time possibilities and services of many kinds in Porvoo. For example outdoor activities and sports. Also the capital area nad Helsinki is only an hour away from Porvoo. When working for Porvoo Youth Services the volunteers will learn how the Finnish youth work is organised. Porvoo Youth Services is involved in many projects for young people and it cooperates with several organisations, service providers and municipal services providers. Through the co-operation with the Culture and Leisure Services, the EVS-volunteers will learn how co-operation can enrich the activities. EVS-volunteers can for example make some working days in a library or an art school. When joining the activities our professional youth workers do with schools evs-volunteers will get to know the Finnish schooling system.EVS-volunteers will work in our youth centres and participate in the daily routines and activities. According to their own skills and interests they play different games with children and do handycrafts and other tasks. Also baking, cooking and other activities are organised by youth workers and children. The leaders role is to activate and motivate young people to all activities, listen and guide them. Notice those who are shy or have a tendency to stay off, and cool down the wildest children and calm situations, if needed. EVS-volunteers may organise own clubs after interests of their own and children, plan clubs together with children and advertise them. They are expected to bring and teach the traditions and habits of their own country or culture ( for example food, games, music, language). Porvoo Youth Services organise discos and events and camps for children. EVS-volunteers plan and organise them together with our youth workers. In June there are 10 different camps for children and EVS-volunteers work there as leaders. Porvoo Youth Services do a lot of co-operaton with schools. EVS-volunteers will also visit schools and tell students about EVS-project and encourage students to take part in EVS-program. Porvoo is also a sending organisation. EVS-volunteers will write in a blog about their experiences in Porvoo. Porvoo Youth Services organise International events where EVS-volunteers tell young people about Erasmus+ and EVS. Usually the Youth Council of Porvoo is involved in our events so we give them information about Erasmus+. In our earlier projects the local press and radio have been very interested in EVS-voluntary workers.
