Play the Past - Make it Present
Date du début: 1 août 2015, Date de fin: 30 sept. 2016 PROJET  TERMINÉ

The 21st century is an age of advanced technology and IT progress. Technology has made our life easier and has replaced various activities in everyday life. One of those replaced activities are the traditional yard games. Nowadays, the children under 18 spend much of their time in front of computers and mobile devices, having forgotten about outdoor activities. Hence, having the idea of bringing back traditional yard games and making children more physically active, we came up with the initiative to start a yard game project. This project aims to foster children to spend less time online and more outside. It is a way to empower them to keep fit both mentally and physically. By playing outside with their friends - the children usually become more cooperative, sociable, and develop leadership skills and teamwork. The project sets the the following objectives: - To promote healthy lifestyle among the young people through outdoor activities including different yard games and tournaments; - To encourage communication between young people living in the neighborhood; - To share different nation’s yard games and trigger intercultural dialogue through discussing differences and existing similarities; - To assist preserving traditions and culture elements and passing them to the next generations to come; The project will bring together 30 young people from 6 different countries: The Netherlands, Estonia, Denmark, Armenia, Georgia and Belarus. YE will be held in Yerevan, Armenia in September 2015. Participants will be youngsters of age 18-25 who are keen on outdoor activities, intercultural learning and healthy lifestyle. The project will consist of 3 parts: 1. Getting to know each other, team building activities; 2. Work with the local kids; 3. Organizing a competition between yards in a local school. First part includes various ice breaking and team building activities, which will help to build cooperation between participants. All the activities will be carried out in mixed national groups and it will help to create space for intercultural dialogue. Also participants will present the results of the surveys they made in their communities. After that, the participants will go to several yards and playgrounds of Yerevan. Participants will help children to organize a team for each yard. During the sessions participants together with the local kids will create the name, flag and motto for the team of the yard. They will also share yard games from their own countries. Then, at the end of the project participants will organize a competition between local yards’ teams. We believe that the friendly competition will motivate kids to go outside and also play by themselves. We expect to motivate local kids to involve more and more children from different places and breathe a new life in local desolated yards! We deeply believe that yard games devolve a large piece of a nation’s culture to the next generations, thus implementing this project supposes a great contribution in every partner country’s culture.
