In future there will be growing demand for qualified workers and craftsmen, especially – for experts in manufacturing, commercial services and trade industries. The largest number of people employed in Kurzeme Region in 2012 were in the manufacturing and power industry (21,6%), and trade, accommodation and catering services’ industry (14,8%); and the largest total value added in Kurzeme region was generated by such industries as manufacturing, transport and storage, retail and wholesale, and the repair of car and motorbikes. Within the project it is intended to organize 2-weeks internships abroad for 24 students of the following curricula: „Car mechanics”, „Electrician” and „Electronics”, and „Catering Services” and „Hotel Services”. Thus it can be concluded that the students to be involved in the mobility represent from those indistries, which meet the demand of the labour market. The internship shall be organised in three flows: Flow 1 – 8 students from the curricula „Electrician” and „Electronics” – an internship for 2 weeks shall be held in Germany, UAZ Waren. Working language – German. Flow 2 – 10 students from the curriculum „Car mechanics” – an internship for 2 weeks shall be held in Germany, HWK Schwerin. Working language – German. Flow 3 – 6 students from the curricula „Catering Services” and „Hotel Services”– an internship for 2 weeks shall be held in Turkey, Fethiye Training Centre. Working language – English. The aim of the project is to facilitate the improvement of personal and vocational skills, to carry out additional training, improve skills and knowhow of the selected profession, as well as to get to know the international labour market and its requirements, and to increase the prestige of vocational education. Individuals involved in the project will increase their competitiveness on the labour market, and shall decrease the risk of early school leaving, since they are motivated to carry on with the studies and personal development. In parallel this motivation is transferred to the peers at schools so that they would strive for getting an apprenticeship in next projects. The youngsters which will have taken part in the internship abroad, will experience higher appreciation from the employers, since such mobility proves they are motivated, determined, able to adapt, with good communication skills and resistant to stress (which is experienced, since they are far away from the usual study and living environment). As a result of the mobility project the quality of apprenticeship, cooperation between authorities, the transfer of knowledge and skills shall be improved, and ideas for innovative learning processes shall also be gained. Such activities allow the students to learn the most up-to-date equipment used in the industry. It shall provide the opportunity not only to improve their vocational skills, but also to develop their personal features, which shall be of importance for their future career – self-reliance, responsibility, initiative, communication skills and ability to communicate with individuals of various age, gender and culture. The VET learners shall have the ooportunity to get to know a qualitative working environment with modern equipment, qualitative and successful workorganisation and collaboaration/ communication experience while being abroad. The project shall also benefit to raising the prestige of vocational education among youngsters.
