Date du début: 1 août 2015, Date de fin: 30 nov. 2016 PROJET  TERMINÉ

The volunteer will be placed in the Youth Center "Folsterhöhe". The Youth Center belongs to the department "Child and Youth Work" of the Youth Welfare Office of the Saarbrücken district. The Saarbrücken district is a regional association consisting of ten cities and communities in the greater area of Saarbrücken. The district lies in the southwest of Germany and borders on France. Luxembourg is just an hour's drive away. In addition to its tasks in the social sector, the District Council is also responsible for the tasks of the health authorities and the environmental protection agency. Furthermore, it is the main responsible body for secondary schools in the region and for the adult education centres. The Youth Welfare Office occupies over 200 employees. As with all youth services, the focus of activity is on the compulsory tasks as stipulated in the Child and Youth Welfare Act (Sozialgesetzbuch VIII, SGB VIII). The department maintains 15 Youth Centres, which are so-called "open door institutions". The range of duties includes youth protection, advice and promotion for private agencies, design and implementation of youth culture and prevention projects, as well as planning and implementation of holiday programmes and recreational activities. In addition, the department provides twenty posts for assigning young people within the federal volunteer service and the voluntary social year. The Youth Center is located in the residential area "Folsterhöhe" on the outskirts of Saarbrücken. The visitors of the Youth Center are aged between 10 and approximately 21. The Youth Center is open to visitors on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursday from 14:30 to 20:30 o’clock and on Fridays from 16:00 to 22:00 o’clock. The Youth Center offers activities on a regular basis, such as a sports program (on Thursdays from 16:00 to 18:00 o’clock) and common cooking time (on Fridays at 16:30 o’clock). The different tasks within youth work are characterized by a great amount of diversity. They can be of pedagogical matter or belong to the organisation of projects. The choice of tasks will follow abilities and interests of the volunteer. The main task in the Youth Center is to provide support and advice to young people. The work includes relationship building through joint activities with the visitors of the Youth Center, such as playing billiard , card games, cooking, trips etc. Furthermore the volunteer can accompany children and youth leisures, help with the organisation of cultural youth event and develop and organise an own project by communicating with the young people of the Youth Center. None of the tasks will be achieved without guidance. The volunteer is 26 years old. She is from Istanbul, Turkey. At the age of 8 she moved to Catalca with her mother and two sisters. There she grew up in the Nesin Foundation, which supports children and youngsters without families or with families, that aren't able to care for their children or to enable them the access to education. They live together in a Children's Village. Growing up in the Nesin Foundation the volunteer already gained experience in childcare and in recreational activities with young people. The Office for Youth Work likes to participate in the EVS program and to forward international exchange. There are a lot of different spheres of activity for young people in order to experience social and pedagogical labour. We hope that employing a volunteer will enrich our projects because of the different point of view contributed by the volunteer herself. During her service the volunteer will get a deep insight into a German administration and into German youth work. We believe that the European Voluntary Service offers young people the opportunity to strengthen their common consciousness, to awaken interest in other cultures, to promote personal development and to promote tolerance and solidarity. These four points have an effect not only on the European volunteer, but also on young people who visit our youth center. It is our concern to mediate these aspects to our visitors. The realisation of this project makes the learning platform "Europe" accessible to young people. It initiates and promotes the Peer-Learning and builds and enhances the trans-border cooperation and the Europe-wide network.
