Between 20th – 28th February, 2015 Youth Dynamics hosted in Cyprus an international training course with the title P.I.C: Participation, Inspiration, Creativity. The project focused in gathering 30 youth workers and leaders from 15 countries actively working with young people and having experience under different actions of European programmes like ERASMUS+ Program, Comenius and Grundvig. The focus of the training was placed on principles of youth participation and how to use different methods and tools to be more effective and confident in their everyday work with young people while supporting their active participation.
The training course took place in Agros, Cyprus and involved 30 participants from the following countries: Cyprus, Greece, Estonia, Italy, Romania, Portugal, France, Lithuania, Germany, Malta, Latvia, Spain, Hungary, Bulgaria and Croatia.
The Project aimed at training youth workers on how they could encourage and foster youth involvement and the active participation of young people as a key factor for future personal and professional development of the youngsters as active citizens on national and international level. The seminar’s aim was to address the new trends in youth participation through a constructive exchange of information and practices amongst the main stakeholders in the field of youth participation. This seminar intended to provide space and means for youth researchers, policy-makers, youth organisations and young people practising new ways of participation to explore this issue together and to develop strategies on how they can be implemented in youth work practice, youth educational programmes, youth research and policy. The main issues brought up and discussed by experts and participants during the seminar focused on three main areas related to participation: the relations of young people with participation, the questions raised by the concept of participation-inspiration- creativity, as well as the positive side of youth participation.
The specific objectives of the training could be described as follows:
- To develop the participants’ common understanding of the main principles of youth participation
- To enrich their understanding about lifelong learning and non-formal education
- To encourage the exchange of good practices on creation, coaching and management of youth participation projects
- To build skills for the encouragement and support for the active participation of young people
- To develop new ideas for future common projects
The training was designed following the principles of non-formal education, having interactive and participatory approach, using various methods and tools. The project had been developed after careful consideration of the reality in the different countries but also comments and ideas of participants and promoters were considered. During the training course youth workers were trained on how they could encourage and foster youth involvement and the active participation of young people as a key factor for future personal and professional development of the youngsters as active citizens on national and international level. The expected result was to have 30 youth workers trained who will support and coach the youngsters to participate actively in different initiatives and projects. The training overall provided new approaches, methods and tools to the youth workers.
After the required self-assessment procedure of evaluating results and new skills all participants received a Youthpass certificate.
The training course P.I.C. was developed with the motto: “a goal of every living creature is to break out of the box.”
Creative entrepreneurship is a path that was used in the training to stimulate young people's spirit of initiative, their ability to think imaginatively and originally, their readiness to take risk in order to achieve economic, political, social or environmental goals.
During the training course we implemented activities and exercises that strengthened some of these basic creative entrepreneurship competences including: team-building, facilitation, communication, intercultural competence and creative thinking skills.
We explored the reasons that creative thinking is considered a core entrepreneurship skill and enhances participants’ power as entrepreneurs by increasing their ability to think creatively.
The training course contributed not only to the personal development of the participants, but also promoted the exchange of best practices and establishment of new connections among all over the Europe.
One of the main objectives of this project was to ensure that all those who work together with young people recognize the duty to safeguard the protection of young people.
