Personal Profile and Support Project

The project will identify students at risk of 'dropping out' of compulsory secondary or Higher Education and will evaluate their needs with the aim of keeping them enrolled in the educational system. In targeting potential educational 'dropouts' the project aims to reduce their risk of unemployment and social marginalisation while, at the same time, lessening the cost to society of incomplete education. The project will develop an interactive tool, namely the 'Risk Detector', to identify risk factors that can predict potential student dropout. A 'Student Group Monitor will assemble information from the 'Risk Detector' to alert school administrators and counsellors about potential dropouts. The project will design a 'Personal Profile' that allows student counsellors to build a holistic picture of potential dropouts which can be employed to systematically examine individual students' strengths and weaknesses. The 'Personal Profile' will take the form of an interview schedule and will draw on findings obtained through the 'Risk Detector' analysis. The Profile interview should serve as a motivational tool to potential dropouts and will be supported in this by a 'Flexible Prevention and Support System' which is a tool for counsellors to offer a range of learning and training opportunities to individual students. These various tools will be tested and refined in the partner countries and training will be developed for counsellors in the use of these tools. A manual will be produced with detailed descriptions concerning the Risk Detector, Personal Profile and Flexible Prevention and Support System. The project website will disseminate project information and will include database on support systems for dropouts.
