Thanks to this project, 2 classes from Lycée Mathias in Chalon sur Saône (Burgundy-FR) undertook a 4 weeks work placement in St Helens (Merseyside-GB), the Chalon sur Saône's twinned city. The participants : - 24 students of a vocational training in 'Business and Administration' (13 students in 2015, 11 students in 2016), who attended a European class course. - 4 adults from lycée Mathias (3 English, Maths and Business teachers, plus the head of the vocational department) Main objectives : - Enhancing our students' schooling to give them the best chances for a good start in life, - Preventing young people from dropping out of education by involving them in a gratifying and motivating project, - Reinforcing the students linguistic and professional skills, - Giving the students a better chance to pass their exam, - Developing school partnerships between Lycée Mathias and other high schools and colleges in St Helens to improve the language teaching, - Improving the image of vocational studies in France, - Further develop and sustain the Chalon and St Helens twinning. Main activities : - 3 planned visits to permit 13 students in 2015 and 11 students in 2016 to do a work placement in a St Helens Council organisation. The students stayed at Chalon Court Hotel, in the town center. One of the students, over eighteen years old, who had not been able to leave with the first group in 2015, has realised a mobility staying on his own in March 2016 (just after the second group). - 2 teachers or the head of the vocational department plus a teacher accompanied each group to look after the students, to ensure teaching monitoring, and to try to establish new links with primary schools or colleges in St Helens. Expected results and impacts at the beginning of the project : - Giving the students a European and Euro Mobi pro Baccalaureate, - Helping them to attend higher education trainings after obtaining the Baccalaureate to attain business jobs which require language skills (BTS Manager Assistant/ BTS Tourism/BTS International Trade and Business) - Establishing new developmental projects (web conferences or e-twinning) between lycée Mathias and St Helens schools' classes and improving the teaching of foreign languages, - Enabling local companies to hire employees who are capable of speaking English, who have an awareness of Europe as a whole and therefore also of globalisation.
