TERMINÉ
The last two years funding from the European Union, submitted by the Erasmus+ Youth in Action program has enabled the Youth Exchange Program People4People to take place between Iceland, Germany and Poland. In 2014 the program was hosted by the German delegation and in 2015 by the Polish delegation. In 2016 it will be Iceland‘s turn. The first year in southern Germany the program‘s mission was to seek and find different points of view on what it means to be a living human being in a modern European society under the heading „Be the Change“. In Poland we continued on this path with a thorough education on human rights and violations thereof under the heading „Let the Change Grow“. Next year we want to continue this work along the same lines, focusing on non-violent liberation movements and the various social ills and injustices they seek to combat, in a leader-training program under the heading: „Stand up for your right!“. In this manner we will be building further upon what we have been establishing in the last two years. The last couple of years it became evident that music conquers all language and cultural barriers. Many of the youths taking part in the program are skilled musicians and practically every single one has an avid interest in music. Their free time they have spent listening to music together and making music and group projects have even taken on musical form. This has resulted in a clear request from the participants that music be further incorporated into the program. This is why we intend to use music as a teaching tool next year. Various songs will be used as gateways into social issues and as constructive presentations of certain non-violent liberation movements, i. e. womens liberation, anti-racism, LGBT rights etc.Note: This is not a music program, this is a civil rights and liberties education program. The object is not to teach music but to use the musical know-how and interest that the participants already have to enhance their knowledge and enthusiasm for civil rights. As before the group consists of 30 participants and six leaders, ten participants and two leaders from each of the three participating countries. Volunteers from ÆSKA will help with practical matters. All participating organisation are youthwork organisations of evangelical Lutheran churches. This is a program of peer education to raise public awareness. The long term benefit will be more informed, skiled and capable youths and increased social awareness about civil rights.
