PEGASUS - Development of an Innovative European Postgraduate Course of Equine Assisted Therapy based on a Modular Training System and the Installation of a European Network of Expertise concerning EAT

Equine Assisted Therapy (EAT) for people with disabilities is both underdeveloped and at times misused. The PEGASUS project will promote a more holistic and professional approach to this therapy by developing a modular postgraduate course, by proposing ethnical codes & standard guidelines and by developing a European network of health and social care providers, riding schools and training providers.Once developed, tested and refined, the modular course will facilitate lifelong learning for a variety of health and social care professionals, leading to part or full certification and further comprising a period of work experience, abroad if possible. This will provide a flexible tool for specialisation at postgraduate level. Some of the modules will be adapted for distance learning. A report on the state of the art, including best practice, will be produced and disseminated. New ethical codes and standard guidelines will stimulate policy improvements and network development will foster co-operation and partnership working.Broad dissemination is envisaged via publications, press conferences and information sessions in partner states. An e-magazine, in EN and one other language, will reach out to similar organisations beyond the participating partner countries and the project will culminate in a European congress.
