Peer educators for peace

Recent situation in Europe and world made people reflect on the meaning of conflict and peace and also wondering and undertaking various actions to prevent tragic events and deepening the crisis. There is knowledge missing on how conflict escalate and how it starts, where are the roots of it. On the other hand. there are several groups experienced and knowledgeable in the topic of peace, but even though very often those people are missing the tools to act effectively and deliver their knowledge.Training course “Peer educators for peace” has been created as an answer for the problems mentioned above and invites 24 youth leaders, youth workers and volunteers from Poland, Macedonia, Serbia, Kosovo, Ukraine, Spain, Italy and Georgia to Tomaszów Lubelski in Poland in order to in order to equip them with non formal tools to build peace in their communities and within the international collaboration framework. Their 8 learning days in Poland will abound in various non formal and in formal techniques: Team-building activities, ice-breakers, energizers, meetings/evaluations, group tasks, sharing personal experiences, problem solving activities, simulations, case studies, demonstrations, group discussions, role play, and other tools will be used to strength participants’ competences. And reach the following goal and objectives:Aim: The main aim of the training course is to empower youth leaders coming from conflict affected communities to become peer educators for peace and to encourage their sustainable commitment to peace.1. To challenge participants’ attitudes and behaviours while working in culturally and ethnically diverse environment .2. To experience, encourage and promote collaboration in the international level in the atmosphere of respect, solidarity and common understanding.3. To develop participants’ common understanding of basic concepts related to peace building, such as violence, non violent communication, conflict management and transformation and to explore the links between them.4. To give participants the space for sharing their personal experience on and also experience on national level with conflict and to reflect on it.5. To equip participants with tools, knowledge and skills useful for leading their own initiatives contributing to peace education6. To explore on the concept of non formal education and its techniques as well as peer education concept in order to gain knowledge and skills on their usage in the context of peace education.7. To inspire and motivate participants for taking initiatives for peace in their local communitiesThe backbone of the training course is non-formal methodology and through experiential learning we want to achieve the learning objectives of the participants. The content of the training course is divided on two parts on which participants on the first part have an input oriented activities where they will be exploring on the topic conflict its analysis and management, gaining knowledge on nonviolent communication and its importance practicing assertiveness and giving and receiving feedback and also sharing personal experience of conflict and conflict of communities and nationalities. Activities which follow are more focused on specific tools and techniques of non formal education. Participants will reflect on the differences and links between FE, NFE and IE and also get familiar with the concept of peer education. The second part of activities we see more output oriented. To give possibility for participants to experience being active locally and to reflect on the role of being peer educator, on this phase participants will be providing workshops to the high school students in the town of Tomaszów Lubelski, where they will contribute in the awareness raising of the local young citizens and share the new knowledge learned. The last part of the activities will aim on development of ideas of participants for follow up projects in their communities and countries. Participants will learn about different aspects of project management and the possibilities that Erasmus Plus Programme bringsAmong the final products of the training course we see video documenting workshop delivered at local high schools, handouts with the instruction and ideas of delivering activities based on peer education, especially in the context of peace building and mainly we expect participants together with their local communities to realize the ideas which will be created during the last part of the program. We also assume to establish long term international collaboration between participants and their organizations which will result in new projects in the topic of peer peace education.
