TERMINÉ
peacecamp 2016: Living TogetherJuly 5th – 15th in Lackenhof/AustriaFour groups of a total of 36 adolescents and 14 adults will meet for a 10 days’ encounter to learn about their personal histories, families, cultures and religions, with the objective to overcome xenophobic prejudice and racist misconception. The group of adolescents will be composed of two groups, Israelis and Palestinians, caught in violent struggle over national and territorial sovereignty, and two groups, Hungarians and Austrians, who need to find decent ways to tackle the problem of the innumerable asylum seekers coming into Europe. It will also include members of marginalized groups (Roma, refugees), thus offering exposure to firsthand accounts of experiences of war, terror, flight, migration and the challenge of finding asylum and acceptance within a new society. “Living Together” focuses on questions concerning identities, inclusion of minorities, reflections about ethical principles, religious beliefs, human rights and constitutional legality. "Living Together" for ten days offers a corrective to whatever preconceptions, fantasies and fears participants may have about the respective “others” of their own society and enable them to experience how inclusion, diversity and integration can contribute to, rather than diminish, what a society can perform and achieve. A set of beforehand assignments is meant to stimulate exploration into participants’ personal histories, religion, culture and political reality before they arrive to the peacecamp. During the peacecamp, a number of activities - outdoor- and art-sessions, “large group” debates, “talks4peace” and four culture evenings will offer opportunities to tackle these issues in many different ways and to creatively engage in forms of “Living Together” which allow to integrate rather than to exclude, to understand rather than segregate and to perceive the “others” through one’s own eyeglasses rather than distorted by prejudice and incitement. The “talks4peace” will offer a frame to look into the personal identity of each participant, to discover similarities and differences between people and groups of people, to see how (social) media can be misused to create and disseminate prejudice and generate anxieties and to explore ways to ways to resist being manipulated and incited to xenophobia and racism. Out of all this a final “show4peace” will evolve to be performed on stage in front of a large audience - a presentable outcome of combining resources, including and integrating, encouraging and sharing. In spite, or maybe because of, the differences between them, 36 people have grown together to become a group – a group made of different people and groups of people – who have each one of them in his or her own way, contributed what they brought with them to create something valuable, something new.At a formal act, as part of show4peace, participants will be awarded with the Youthpass and with the “Ambassador of peace Certificate”. A t-shirt with the peacecamp logo designed by the group, and the peacecamp film produced during the ten days of "Living Together" will be taken home by each participant as something to show and to share with family, friends and peers, as part of the mission of going home as an ambassador of peace.peacecamp 2016 will be assessed and evaluated using several tools, a feedback questionnaire, the “4questions4peace” (before and after peacecamp) and a personal essay “This was peacecamp 2016 for me“, written by each participant. A student of psychotherapy may do research scrutinizing the question whether peacecamp is an adequate tool against xenophobia, anti-Semitism, racism and prejudice. We will make sure to receive as much media coverage as in the past and to disseminate information about the project and the results of research.
