peacecamp 2015: I come here to listen
Date du début: 1 mai 2015, Date de fin: 31 oct. 2015 PROJET  TERMINÉ

peacecamp 2015 - I come here to listen July 5th - 15th in Lackenhof/Austria peacecamp was an encounter of four groups of a total of 34 adolescents and 15 adults, meant to encourage active citizenship, awareness of, and willingness to shape the social and political landscape of the regions from which they come. Two groups involved in generations-long violent conflict ? Israelis and Palestinians ? met groups from Hungary and from Austria, two nations which have overcome century long warship and are now partners in a joint peace project, the European Union. Preparatory activities and activities during the encounter focussed on exploring individual, cultural, national and religious histories of these four nations, on listening to each other's account of their respective national and/or international issues and in experimenting with new ways of introspection, dialogue, debate and coping with conflicts. A set of activities was designed to trigger intercultural dialogue (in a foreign language ? English) and to stimulate awareness for how each nation does (or does not) ensure human rights and democratic values for all its citizens ? attitude to minorities, to religion, to people with fewer social or economical opportunities and with shared, as well as national issues of the participating groups and nations. These activities triggered self reflection, empathy, assertiveness and other skills apt to face one's own and others' social and political problems, to understand the perspective of the other party involved in a conflict and to lend a listening ear to diverging narratives of shared history. In- and outdoor group-dynamic activities and games of skill made it necessary to develop a joint strategy, to take on leadership, to cooperate and support one another, alternating with more reflective activities like yoga, meditation, or with "large group" debates in which a verbal exchange took place about conflictual issues within or between groups and individuals. A block of "talks4peace" led by experts offered a chance to reflect upon, present and debate social and political issues and to come up with suggestions as how the different groups and nations could deal with one another in the future. Four "culture evenings" set up by each of the groups gave a positive, entertaining and informative view of each group and two final "shows4peace" allowed exposure to a real audience and enhanced creativity, self-respect, self-esteem and assertiveness. A video film was produced alongside the project, taken home and shown at both shows4peace, and later, at the Jewish Film Festival Vienna and on many other occasions. In an official act at the end of the encounter, all participants were awarded with the "EU Youth Pass" as well as with our "Ambassador of Peace" certificate and reminded of the mission these certificates imply ? to disseminate whatever insights and new experiences they had acquired during these ten days and to engage in peace building actions within their own environment. We tried and are still trying to get as much media coverage as possible and to make peacecamp a shared experience within the groups, schools, regions and nations involved. Assessment of results by questionnaires, essays and follow up through social media, mutual visits and correspondence complete the project.
