Path to volunteering
Date du début: 1 août 2015,
Date de fin: 30 nov. 2015
”Path to volunteering” project is a youth exchange financed by the European Commission through Erasmus+ programme, that took place between 4 and 14 of September 2015, in the village of 2 Mai, on the Black Sea seashore. The 30 participants were coming to Romania from this 5 countries: Bulgaria, Croatia, Ukraine, Georgia and Romania.
The project main focus was to encourage young people to get more involved in the development of their community by performing different types of voluntary work that match their desires and development needs. During the 3 months of the project, we managed to reach the fallowing objectives:
1. Develop participants knowledge regarding different types of volunteering (working with kids, environmental, healthy life), assertive communication, motivation theories and the ways voluntary work can develop our lives and our future careers.
2. Develop participants skills concerning working with children, communicating with people of different ages, knowing how to tackle sensitive subjects such as drugs, implement non-formal methods and activities that can produce an impact in their communities.
3. Improve participants attitudes towards voluntary work, increase their motivation to make a change in their community. They are now more aware of the benefits of voluntary work and motivated to make decisions for their own personal development.
The program of the youth exchange was containing multiple non-formal methods, indoor, outdoor, involving the community of 2 Mai and also their home community- once they turned back home. The 10 days mobility in the 2 Mai area, gave to our participants plenty of time to develop their skills and to understand how powerful is voluntary work in developing 8 key competences.
During the 10 days spend in 2 Mai, but also back in their communities, our participants had the chance to experiment different types of volunteering, by participating in indoor sessions and by practicing what they’ve learned in the outdoor sessions. They were involved directly in the community by talking with people on the sea side about health education, by planting flowers in the local school and kindergarten and by using non-formal education to actively involve young people on the beach. The community was very pleased to see such active young people and many of them asked us details about the projects. We shared information about E+, we gave many flyers and put posters everywhere in the community. We invited local people and tourists to join our "clean the beach" action and we were very happy to see that many people got involved in our initiative. While doing all this activities, our participants improved their key competences such as communication in english, sense of initiative, social and civic.
