Language Passport for the development of education The teachers working in the Complex of Special Schools in Warta have long been considering a collaboration with a foreign school for persons with special educational needs. However, the same doubts, namely the language barrier, appeared during any conversation concerning such cooperation. The information on the new European program Erasmus+ has opened up the possibility for solving the language problem along with learning about the organisation of special education in European countries . The program of the project has been designed on the basis of the European School Development Plan, which defines the needs of the school and areas for improvement . The main needs of the school are in line with the objectives of the project. These include: learning new teaching methods, initiating international cooperation and developing English language proficiency among teachers . Twenty-two teachers of our school will participate in the project. All of them will be willing to take part in mobility , ready to take action in favour of international cooperation, to implement new teaching methods and perform tasks related to evaluation and dissemination of the project. The participants of the project will be divided into two groups. Each of them will go on training to another country. Group I will take part in a two-week language and methodology course in Dublin, while group II in a similar course in Oxford. The participants will attend classes conducted by native English speakers. During the methodical part of the course the participants will learn about education systems in both countries, in particular about the organisation of special education. The programmes of both courses include a visit to a school educating people with special educational needs, during which the participants will learn how to work with children with special educational needs applied in Ireland (group I) and England (group II). The participants will be thoroughly prepared to leave for training abroad. For ten months they will learn English, as well as to expand the information about the culture of the partner countries. After having returned to Poland the two groups will exchange information, experiences and materials. They will apply the alternative teaching methods during the lessons and implement good practices in the work of the school, which, in turn will increase the effectiveness and attractiveness of classes. The participants will translate the school website into English. They will also share their knowledge with the entire teaching staff of the school and teachers from other schools at conferences and meetings. They will post the information about the project on the school website and publish an article in the local press. The project will therefore contribute to the promotion of school in the region and on the international level. As a result of their participation in the project the teachers will raise their professional, personal, practical, cultural competencies and their motivation to continue learning a foreign language will increase. The knowledge of English will be for them a gateway to further professional development and contacts with teachers from abroad, established during participation in training, will result in international cooperation. All the abilities acquired during the implementation of the project will strengthen professional profile of teachers. Teacher professionalism will contribute to improving the quality of school work.
