Background and objectives: The European Youth Parliaments for Water (EYPW) are designed to promote youth participation in water policies, firstly by raising awareness of the challenges of water management, and secondly through education for citizenship and democracy. The EYPW are organized since 15 years by Solidarity Water Europe (SWE), which has developed a recognized expertise, and established an extensive network of youth organizations in Europe and organizes since 1998 events for mobilizing young people on the water thematic. 12 European Youth Parliaments for Water thus were held in France, Hungary, Malta, Bulgaria, Switzerland, Romania, Moldova, Germany, Russia, Holland, Armenia and France. More than 4,000 young people participated, coming from all over Europe. Last PEJE took place in December 2014 in Douai, France. Participants: The 12th PEJE brought together young people aged 18 to 25, youth coordinators, elected officials and experts from 17 European countries: Armenia, Belgium, Bulgaria, France, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Kosovo, Latvia, Malta, Moldova, Netherlands, Poland, Switzerland, Turkey and Ukraine. Activities: - Active learning, discussions with recognized experts and practical workshops in the field (case studies, role play ..) - Workshops and working to create the design of projects and the creation of educational tools by youth for youth - Moments of exchanges and conviviality: an evening of cultural exchange, the discovery of the host culture - A democratic approach: all productions and commitments produced are validated by the Parliament in plenary sessions; vote on policy matters and elected representatives - An official and final public session, attended by politicians and the media: it is the highlight of the event. Program content: * The 12th EYPW launching ceremony was held December 2, 2014 in the theater of Douai. Personalities and officials (the Mayor of Douai, the General Director of the Agency of Local Water, the President of the Artois-Picardie Basin Committee, the Chairman of the International Secretariat for Water ...) spoke . At the end of a ceremony combining theatrical and artistic performances and a retrospective of 15 years of PEJE, youth parliament for water each made an oath of commitment for water in their mother tongue. * After workshops on topics related to water and sanitation (Access to water and sanitation in Europe; Energy and resources conservation, protection of biodiversity and Human activities : the case of climate change; Transforming his daily behavior for better conservation and water management) as well as workshops on communication and project management, youth drafted, debated and voted a joint declaration consisting of issues, recommendations and action. * Committees of Youth: Young people were, according to their skills and interests in five separate committees (Communication, Social Life, Water Messengers & Tv show, Evaluation and Elections) they were responsible for managing, thus allowing the life, animation and organization of the week. * Closing ceremony: It was during a Basin Committee decentralized to the Chamber of the Region Hotel in Lille and in the presence of personalities such as the President of the French Water Partnership that the European youth parliamentarians for water closed their parliamentary week for water. They discovered the internal process of a local instance decision, debate and exchange with members of the Committee, present the results of the week and the Declaration including their objectives and commitment to water and sanitation. Outcomes and impacts: participants trained on 4 themes relating to water; nearly 1,000 people indirectly affected by the impact of WYPW; 1 official statement prepared and adopted by young people; concrete actions they take in their country; 1 European network of young people who share their experiences and the results of their projects; 1 Facebook page where young people communicate about events and information related to water and allows them to stay in touch to organize actions for water; Press articles in local and national media; 1 logbook; actions carried out locally by the young (awareness in schools and universities, mobilization for the campaign Water Messengers ...). Long-term benefits: Youth participants disseminate the Declaration at local, regional and European level, implement concrete projects at home and can apply to attend the World Youth Parliament for Water.
