Parents learning about Early Childhood Development (ECD) and Early Childhood Education (ECE)

Becoming a parent brings a new situation: little time, little money, isolation, and a desire to know more about how to support children in their development. Parents want to exchange experiences and ideas with other parents. Peer learning has proven to be an effective form of parental education. In the partnership, peer learning on national level was combined with international exchanges and study visits. Each of the countries had their own strong points to teach and their own questions to study through the mobilities. Astrid Lindgren Institute (IMD) in Poland is author of an innovative approach on Early Childhood Development and - Education methodologies. They wanted to study how to strengthen bottom up parents initiatives and strengthen parents’ skills to cooperate with professional childcare institutions and local authorities. In addition, they have supported the transfer of knowledge to a number of groups throughout Poland. The Dutch Nest! foundation has developed grassroots learning methodologies and supported the partnership in facilitating several workshops. They have studied during the partnership how to reinforce self help concepts through peer exchanges.Slovakia has developed good links between the formal and informal educational sector. They shared their experiences with the Academies of Practical Parenthood with the other partners and in their visits to Poland, deepen their understanding on issues of Early Childhood Development and parenthood.The German Muetterforum, the network of Mother Centers and Family Centers in Baden-Württemberg, has a strong tradition of organizing open community spaces where parents learn and grow. Over the past years, they developed and accredited the concept of 'Babycafé with guests', which they shared (amongst others) with the partners. During the project they have been studying the methods of early childhood development and early childhood education in Poland and Slovakia, in order to see how to integrate aspects
