Parents Informal Networks for Early Childhood Learning
Date du début: 1 nov. 2013,

It is an accepted fact of life that most rural areas are underserved where the provision of many core social and educational services is concerned. Regardless of any economic constraints or policy deficits the on-the-ground, physical presence of certain services in all areas is unsustainable. Geography and demography discriminate and the decisions of policy makers and service providers are influenced by value for money, efficiency and issues of practicality, and rightly so. However, the debate should not stop there. Cost-effective and efficient delivery of local community education, training and support services to remote and diverse rural communities has been highlighted as a main target of government policies on rural development. The emergence of ubiquitous technology platforms and infrastructures and the widespread engagement with these new environments by people of all social classes presents new opportunities for rural communities and service providers that are not being harnessed. The project consortium believes that it has identified an innovative, multi-faceted model for the development and provision of social network based education centred on blending training for employment, parenting supports, early childhood development training and induction training for service providers and bringing them to life in bespoke micro-social networking environments. As most rural communities are microcosms of society as a whole they contain all the instances of disadvantage, marginalisation and social exclusion that one regularly encounters throughout society without the availability of locally based resources and services to combat them. Partners believe that the approach proposed will result in a significant improvement in the educational self-sufficiency of rural families allied to the creation of formal and informal support networks for parents representing a considerable innovation for rural communities.
