Parent Training in the Field of Very Early Language Learning
Date du début: 1 nov. 2010,

The aim of the project is to create a parent training model enabling parents to become their children's guides in the language acquisition process. Training parents seems the most fruitful way to maximize the time of children's exposure to the target language in a natural and also in the most economic way.The parent training model is going to stand on a triangular frame - we will design and offer courses to parents in three areas - foreign language, methodology for very early language learning, and developmental psychology. Parents will continually provide us with feedback on how they are able to incorporate very early language learning in their games with their children. Then we will modify the content of the courses according to the feedback. Parents' effort to facilitate their children's language acquisition will be further supported by offering language-focused playgroups, childcare service (in the target language), coaching for parents attending courses, records of best practice examples, library of materials and a social forum where they can virtually meet other parents. The parent training model will provide a range of courses; each of the three areas will cover the description of the course and its content. Specific examples, photographs, and participants' feedback will be part of each course description. Finally, the partnership will disseminate the final version of the parent training model. We will contact kindergartens and mother centres, language schools, playgroups, and training centres around Europe as well as decision makers on the local and national levels, and offer the complete model to them. Various media will work as a useful tool to disseminate the model. The model should be adoptable in various cultures, regardless of the target language. As a result, more parents around Europe can be involved in their children's foreign language acquisition, which, in turn, will increase the number of active foreign language users.
