“Sir Thaddeus: A Nobleman’s Tale from the Year of 2015” project is an exchange of 28 young people from Poland and Lithuania. Participants are social activists whose passions are history, culture and literature of both countries. The aim of the project was to encourage Polish and Lithuanian youth to take interest in their shared past and the cultural heritage with special emphasis on Adam Mickiewicz’s poem “Sir Thaddeus” and take care of the heritage using modern forms and means of expression. This aim was established on actual geopolitical situation where conflicts between Warsaw and Vilnius are becoming more often. This project indicated that the shared past is a value which should be used as a foundation to build our future instead of starting conflicts. Lasting 11 days meeting fully refered to the “Sir Thaddeus” poem. It took place in the “Filmowe Soplicowo” manor in Cichowo. There are original parts of scenography used in the Andrzej Wajda’s screen version of the “Sir Thaddeus” book. Every day of the exchange matched subsequent Books. The exception is the sixth day when the events from the VI and VII Book were discussed. During the meeting participants took part in activities connected with “Sir Thaddeus” poem. Participants prepared their own staging of the Dowejka and Domejka’s duel. Moreover they made outdoor game about the Last Lithuanian Foray. In addition they trained in fencing and participated in series of workshops connected with the book. Participants learned about the polish and lithuanian culture and improved their soft skills and language skills. At the end of the meeting they prepared the noble feast where they were in nineteenth-century clothes and they will dance the polonaise. The aim was achieved by posting three films from the exchange on the Internet. First video showed accomplished activities. Two more showed young people recited excerpts from the book. These films received over 9,000 views. Furthermore, participants created the fan page on Facebook where they published photos and notes from the each day of the project. Activities were carried out using the workshop methods where the participants were working in groups guided by trainers or on their own. Thanks to the exchange, participants and recipients of our videos discovered “Sir Thaddeus” anew. It will lead to perceive the poem as more interesting, valuable and inspiring by them. They will share their point of view among friends. It will oppose the actual trend of seeing Adam Mickiewicz’s poem as a boring school reading. Thanks to experience gained during the exchange and the improvement of the soft skills, participants of the project became more courageous, socially engaged and they have a greater chance on the labour market. Acquired knowledge about the history of Poland and Lithuania, therefore the history of Central-Eastern Europe showed participants that they are essential part of the european family. Besides, it strengthened their attitude of openness and tolerance.
