Colaiste Ide is managed under the CDETB formally CDVEC who have extensive experience of mobility projects, see attached CDETB Organisational Objectives & Chart. We have seen a colossal change in recent times with the rationalisation and amalgamation of the VEC's from 32 down to 16 ETB'S, the disbandment of FAS and its services and the amalgamation with ETB'S under SOLAS. Going forward Education and Training has to be coordinated and integrated with FAS. "The best of education and the best of training". We have six of our sister colleges engaged in international projects KA1 Learner Mobility and a number involved in KA2 Transfer of Innovation projects.
The college is located in the heart of a disadvantaged area with a high level of unemployment. The college community comprises of over 930 full-time students of which 561 are Post Leaving certificate, 195 Vocational Training and Opportunity Scheme (Adult education) and 50 Back to Education Initiative (early school-leavers/youth education). They age profile is from 17 upwards and also has an Open Learning Centre (distance learning) and a night school. The college also operates and manages a community leisure facility which is open for public use on a 7-day per week basis and is used by almost 2000 customers per week. The college also provides community education programme to 21 locations within the Dublin North-West area and in excess of 1700 people per annum avail of this service. Colaiste Ide uses certification provided by over 30 certifying agencies notable QQI. It has a staff of 60 teachers, 11 support staff and 22 general employees.
The objectives are: • The harmonisation of the standards and co-operation with the above mentioned partners in the preparation of the initial application documentation. • To develop innovative concepts and methodologies for the training and education of trainees aspiring to work within the tourism and leisure sector in a manner that inform the informal learning processes as well the formal elements of the learning programme as part of a trans-national work place learning experience - Europe 2020 • To ensure that employment is opened up to all sectors of society as a means of increasing social inclusion and countering poverty through the development of ’on the job’ learning in a European environment - Europe 2020. • To create networks for the development of relevant and appropriate communications between partners.• To prepare detailed final reports on the results of the project and to disseminate such results to interested parties within the wider further education sector in Ireland. • To reduce the rate of early school-leavers - Copenhegan Process/Bruges Communique/vision for 2020. • To expose student trainees to working within a developing industry in another European member state and to compare training systems within Hungary and Italy in the Catering and Art industry with those pertaining in Ireland through practical work experience within both sectors in and through practical experience of the class room based learning outcomes. This is in line with the Bruges Communique.
We have been involved in mobility projects for a number of years in different areas of the school. We have a total of 27 courses at PLC level normally at level 5 and 6 (EQF 4 and 5), We currently are offering a IVT mobility project to our Art & Fashion, Tourism & Leisure and Hotel & Catering which are one year programmes all of which have industry accreditation. We envisage taking 30 participants 18+ from our Professional Catering Level 5 & 6 course. and we chose Hungary because it is a major tourist destination, rich in heritage but at the same time it has a modern approach with regarding to its Catering industry. To have access to employment that is not accessible in Dublin namely confectionery In Hungary or Art galleries or Fashion houses where the skills learnt in a classroom setting can be put into practical and meaningful work placements.
The methodology used is to ensure that participants are mentored and monitored at all stages of the mobility by dedicated college staff members. This involves liaising closely with participants, college staff, partner and all relevant parties involved.
The desired impact for the participant is that they will develop social awareness skills, succeed in either gaining employment or access to further education. For the college it is to increase awareness of what we do in the wider community and for us what more can be done in the future for our learners.
