ouvrir les jeunes au fonctionnement des structures sanitaires et sociales européennes
Date du début: 1 juin 2016, Date de fin: 30 nov. 2017 PROJET  TERMINÉ

For 16 years now the St. Joseph secondary school for vocational training LPRP offers to its 2nd year students in Bac Pro SAPAT the opportunity to do an internship in Ireland or in the Czech Republic. Each year 7 to 12 students leave for Athlone or Plzen for four weeks of training in health- and social-care facilities. For the 2nd year now our students also have the opportunity to do an internship in Spain.St Joseph is a secondary agriculture school under contract with the state. This training period abroad allows us to fulfil the 5th mission of the program in agricultural education which is international cooperation. Moreover, this training period abroad meets the goals of our school’s project - “giving students the opportunity to open up to other countries and other cultures.”For the last few years we have proposed Spanish as a second foreign language to our students and during a school trip in 2014 we established relationships with an on-site coordinator and with certain establishments, which explain our aim to broaden our project to include Spain. The students concerned by this project are 2nd year Bac Pro SAPAT students (Services to Individuals and to the Territories). At the end of the school year, students are awarded a vocational studies certificate – the BEPA Services to Individuals. The skills acquired will enable them to assist less able people in performing routing acts of daily life. This means that they begin their internships already equipped with the technical skills and work on acquiring complementary working skills in organization and in the overall services to the individual. This sums up the professional skills. We also work on developing their language and personal skills by visiting other European countries, helping them become more self-reliant in their everyday life, and cultivating their cultural knowledge…Our on-site consultants are looking for host establishments. They are practically the same we've had for many years. They transfer administrative and teaching aid documents. They set up lodgings on campus in Athlone and with families in Plzen. In Spain our establishments and lodgings are situated around Barcelona. Training objectives and activities are established by the pedagogical attached documents. These objectives are set by the vocation high-school diploma- Bac Pro. It includes communicating with the public, organizing and assessing ones work but also proposing and conducting activities suitable for the public. The aims of the activities are also specified. They include the use of appropriate hygiene requirements, analyzing the needs and the available resources of an establishment, participating in the planning of activities and assessing the work carried out.Teachers escort the students to the host country and stay with them for 4 to 5 days which allow them to meet with the professional teams and to again underline with them the objectives of this training period abroad and the tasks to be carried out… so as to make the necessary adjustments. At the beginning of their internship students follow a language training course with the aim of facilitating their integration in the establishment. When their internship ends, teachers then return to the host country to assess the work progress of each trainee and to conduct a performance review with the tutor appointed by the establishment. When teachers are not physically present, internship follow-up is also ensured by local correspondents who can intervene if needed. Students are placed in situations where they can accomplish assigned tasks in an independent, resourceful, self-sufficient manner and take full care of themselves. However, some students are less mature and thus a local correspondent is there to guide them if needed too. The benefits of these internships for students are numerous; linguistic scale of course but also on a personal level for example in becoming more self-reliant, mature and being able to move freely. On their return, while spontaneously expressing their satisfaction, it is after a few months that the students are more capable of measuring their skills and knowledge. This is why we have added to all the assessments traditionally given a questionnaire to be completed four months later so as to note the remarks on the final report. At the end, students are given several documents – an internship certificate, an assessment chart and Europass Mobility document. Our school publishes information about these internships and their European funding on different platforms for instance on the school’s website and that of the students, on brochures and other publications, and during the various school events and meetings The diffusing on campus is positively accepted. First year Bac Pro students have already expressed their vows for the coming year. A centre for hearing-impaired French people is in contact with its Czech counterpart. We are waiting to hear about the way things will turn out.
