The « LEP Rural Saint Joseph » is a private school under contract with the Ministry of agriculture and provides among other training Bac Pro “Services to people and territories” (SAPAT). It is to this pupils, in intermediate class of Bac Pro SAPAT that we offer the opportunity to do a work experience abroad. We proposed these mobilities since1999/2001 so we have extensive experience in this field. Since then, we have sent almost every year between 6 and 12 students to Plzen in the Czech Republic or to Athlone, Ireland. The students are mostly girls from 17 to 19 years, holding a BEPA “Services for People”. That is to say, they have already mastered basic professional techniques for intervention with individuals (heath care, nursing …) The expectations of these students include discovering professional practices in other countries and exchanging knowledge. They also want a human and cultural experience. The objectives that we make together are : - To acquire new professional techniques and share knowledge with staff in the host organizations. - To improve their English which is often only average - To live a personal experience that broadens their horizons and motivates them for the future, improving autonomy, mobility and cultural enrichment. Our expectations are that students achieve their goals and further more that this project should be for our establishment a way to raise awareness and recognition, to improve our image and ensure the recruitment of future students. We support young people throughout the year of intermediate bac pro : - Information to students and families in September - Nomination of students in October and selection based on a list of criteria known by families - End of December, final decision of the board to establish the list of young people accepted for abroad training : final registration and allocation of different training sites - Establishment of contact in January with our intermediary partners who will liaise with enterprises and Czech families. They will have previously completed a letter of intention. These enterprises are health and social structures. - Procedures related to travel, lodging. In Ireland accommodation is in a student residence, in Czech Republic, students are welcomed into families which have children learning French. - Educational preparation staggered until the departure of students in late may - Preparation in linguistic, historical, cultural components. We are supported in establishing work placements by our correspondents, one in the Czech Républic, Irena Hrdinova, French teacher, who with her colleagues gives us the essential logistical support for the implementation of work experience placements. The other in Ireland, Anthony Collins is a member of the twinning Athlone / Châteaubriant, twinning committee. Our relations with these correspondents are one of the strengths for our teamof teachers. The 12 teachers of our team take turns in preparing and supporting students. They have established with Iréna and Anthony a real friendship that facilitates our discussions.
