EVS project "Out of Contemporary Box"/ "Kajab kaasaja kastis" brings a 28-year-old Hungarian man Zsolt Bánhalmi to Lille Maja youth centre in Tartu, Estonia for 12 months to bring more life and energy to Lille Maja's daily work with kids, teenagers and young grown-ups. Zsolt does his service in Lille Maja's open youth room, assists in Lille Maja's projects and also initiates his own projects.Lille Maja's open youth room is a place where the youth (mostly 7-11 year-old kids and 12-16 year-old teenagers) come to spend their free time. As there are a lot of activities for the younger age group in Tartu, Lille Maja is taking a new course and in next 4 years we are trying to reach more the older target group - 12-16 years old teenagers. Offering activities to this age group prevents potentially them off the streets. All the activities in Lille Maja's open youth room are free of charge for participants, so anybody can participate irrespective of economic states.In the open youth room Zsolt associates, talks and plays with kids and teenagers, also assists Lille Maja's youth workers. Mostly Zsolt uses methods of open youth work. In addition Zsolt arranges for the youth (12-16 year-old teenagers as the main target group) three weekly activities, which aim is to connect spending free time and having fun with non-formal learning:1) cajón lessons every week help to arise the dialogue between different cultures: the volunteer is from Hungary, the instrument is originally from Peru and used to play music for flamenco - dance of Spanish origin, participants are from Estonia; lessons provide a nice ground for Lille Maja to cooperate with flamenco dance studio Duende, which gives lessons in Lille Maja to the people who are interested in flamenco what ever age they are. Cajón is a box-shaped percussion instrument - "the contemporary box" out of which the music and sounds come. Cajón lessons will end with performances in spring 2017, so that participants get the opportunity to perform and bring to test what they have learned. 2) cooking club every week introduces Hungarian traditional as well as world wide cooking recipes. Recipes and photos of the cooking club will be up-loaded on Lille Maja's sub-web of cooking club. It's a kind of virtual cookery book, which has been started by Lille Maja's previous EVS volunteers. The young participants of the cooking club and other interested people (the parents) can go there, check the recipe and cook at home the meals, which have been tried out in the cooking club. By using the cookery book they will know about Lille Maja's EVS projects and Erasmus+.3) Hungarian culture & language lessons every week (also cooking and animafilms) introduce Hungarian culture and create dialogue between Estonian and Hungarian way of thinking. These languages come from the same finno-ugric protolanguage. It gets the participants out of contemporary box, helps to understand the roots of European nations: bonds and connections between nations come from history. To sum up the Hungarian club we will do a short video interview with the EVS volunteer and the participants, we will put the link of it on Lille Maja's web. Also we share it in Telepurk (Estonian National Agency's space in web).Also Zsolt initiates two projects of his own: 4) a series of the Hungarian animafilm evenings broaden the mind also on the field of artistic expression. Art always includes thinking out of the box. 5) walking-collecting excursions in Tartu help the participants to see how history is always at hand. The participants collect different rocks, stones, sediment, parts of the flora. As Zsolt has studied geology, he shares with the youth what these pieces tell us about the formation of the ground under Tartu and the ways of nature. Always out of the contemporary box. The collected material is used to make herbariums, stone collections or creative pieces of art. The collecting walks in Tartu will end with an exhibition in Lille Maja. Is it a photo exhibition or exhibition of creative works done using the materials collected is to be decided yet. All of this diversifies the range of Lille Maja's services and so increases the quality of youth work in Tartu. All the participants develop their competence of international cooperation and youth work. Both of the organisations involved are hoping to have other common projects. After the return of the volunteer from the EVS project sending organisation will initiate sharing of learned skills and experiences within their NGO. The project also creates conditions to the participants to develop themselves in different key competences and increasing tolerance in their thinking. Zsolt has an opportunity to contribute as a volunteer to the European/ Estonian youth work and develop himself on the personal level and follow his development using the tools of 8 key competencies. The process ends with releasing a Youthpass. This helps to acknowledge non-formal learning.
