Since time immemorial, the production of olive oil has characterised local economies in Mediterranean countries and has gradually built up an olive culture which has left its mark on these territories, their landscapes, town planning, architecture, traditions, gastronomy, lifestyle, etc. The olive tourism project is a network for sharing experiences. It aims to add tourism value to local resources for olive oil production, with the participation of seven Mediterranean countries through public administrations and non-profit associations. Overall objective / Objectif général To consolidate cooperation among local actors in countries within the Mediterranean basin for the purpose of sharing experiences regarding local tourism through the transfer of working techniques and the development of common models. To standardise criteria for creating and efficiently promoting all sorts of tourism products both across borders and locally. Expected results / Résultats attendus Boosting income for the inhabitants of rural olive-oilproducing areas through complementary activities, allowing them to promote and set up local resources related to olive growing. Improved possibilities for action and working methods for social and economic agents in underdeveloped regions. Consolidation in the international context and in the long term of the large network of olive producing municipalities.
