Operationalization of HELCOM Core Set Indicators (CORESET II)

CORESET II will continue the development of the core indicators developed in the CORESET I project and to operationalize them, which includes setting up long-term data management practices to ensure regular updates of the assessments. Achievements: MeetingsCORESET II project meetings review the progress of the expert work and are attended by national contact persons and Task Managers. Task Managers organize indicator- or theme specific meetings in between the project meetings. The kick-off meeting (CORESET II 1/2014) was held 15 -16 January 2014 in Berlin. The meeting was held back-to-back with a HELCOM MORE project meeting.Second meeting in Gothenburg, Sweden 29-30 September 2014. The second meeting (CORESET II 2/2014) was held 29 - 30 September 2014 in Gothenburg. A joint meeting was held 1 October between HELCOM and OSPAR experts involved in developing biodiversity indicators to identify opportunities for cooperation that were documented in a Communication paper.The finalization of core indicator reports will be carried out in the first half of 2015 though physical thematic meetings as well as indicatorspecific teleconferences and correspondance.Currently scheduled thematic meetings:Waterbird indicators, 28-29 January 2015, Jurmala, LatviaJoint meeting with BALSAM WP3 to finalize the two water bird indicators and begin discussions on long-term data-arrangements.Hazardous substance- and bio-effect indicators, 2-4 February 2015, Helsinki, FinlandJoint meeting with BALSAM WP2 to allow for technical discussions with the major datahost of HELCOM hazardous substance data ICES.Benthic- and pelagic indicators, 10-12 February 2015, Gdynia, PolandBack-to-back meeting and joint session with EUTRO-OPER to develop indicator reports and consider the use of indicators of relevance for both eutrophication- and biodiversity assessments.FISH-PRO II 2-2015, 10-12 February 2015, Copenhagen, DenmarkAllocated time to finalize the two coastal fish indicators.
