Our Centre, SOS Social Centre “Hermann Gmeiner” Sarajevo, has started with a new youth program so there will be large number of activities to cover it. It includes educative-creative workshops, psychological workshops, sports tournaments and social games. But, it will not put aside regular activities in other departments of the Centre (Kindergarten and Early Childhood development Centre). Our Centre is visited by children ages 6-13 and youth 13-30 from the SOS Village Sarajevo, the Family Strengthening Project, children from at-risk families in the local community (at social, economic or other level) and children and youth with special needs. Work with younger beneficiaries is mainly based on social games, while work with our older youth populations is based on various creative and educative workshops. Volunteer will spend twelve months of service in the Centre. It ill be a very strong experience for both: volunteer and our beneficiaries. They will have a chance to see that meeting of different cultures, customs and heritage is two-way street and as much volunteer has to offer, she will also receive from locals other way around.It includes participation of young people in planned activities. Also, considering that it is about work with children and youth of various ages, these activities will definitely help volunteer to develop his/her creativity, mobility and professional skills under the supervision of professionals employed in the Centre. This kind of activity also should help volunteer to increase her participation in society after he/she is back to his/her country. Volunteer will also have a chance to work with children by actively participating in different workshops. As mentioned, this work will all be done under the supervision of professionals employed in our Centre. These professionals include Social Workers, Psychologists, Pedagogues, economists, Sociologists. As children and young people have already recognized the Centre as a collaborative creation, volunteer will have a chance to take part in all these activities, including work (help/support/organize) in various workshops. Also, volunteer will be our best assistance and his/her experiences will help us provide better services to all our beneficiaries and at the same time providing volunteer space for new experiences, new skills and competences.
