The "Open Mind: pensar, demonstrar e integrar na sociedade" project is to implement a youth exchange of Portugal and Spain. The group will consist of a set of 16 young people aged between 17 and 30 years and of both sexes and also by the participation of two leaders of each country. The activity will run for seven days and the main objectives are to promote among young people with special educational needs, equal opportunities and rights, stressing their contributions to a more inclusive, tolerant and just society. It is intended to promote the integration of young people in society, by promoting their integration into the labor market by providing them with tools and instruments to make them feasible as agents of change in their own situation, with the potential to achieve better conditions life on a personal level and for their communities. The exchange will take place in Almond da Serra, a small village of Mértola and activities will be linked to the themes of the importance of equal opportunities and rights for all citizens, as are examples workshops youth empowerment and personal development, visits to local companies in the region, promotion of healthy lifestyles and public presentation of the project directed to the local population. With this project the young people will have the opportunity to acquire new skills, such as skills and social skills, active participation in issues related to European citizenship, further knowledge on the importance of active and generating postures of empowerment, increased self-esteem, self confidence and developing personal and professional level of intercultural competence.
