On-site construction employees’ occupational safety in Europe the enhancement and strengthening of their Health and Safety skills development by means of the creation of multimedia training, based on case studies with the use of contemporary devices.

The construction industry with significant employment remains as one of the most hazardous. Annually 1.2 million people lose their life because of occupational illnesses and industrial accidents. In Poland every 3 days a worker dies in accident. But during last year amount of accidents has diminished due to EC policy and national various actions and projects preventing hazardous situations. In Poland in the first quarter of the 2012 year there was registered less accidents on sites that the previous year. This shows that all actions aimed to improving occupational H&S quality is worth effort. Construction is one of the biggest challenges form health and safety point of view. Many accidents occur during works executing by the newcomers (less than 3 months of experience on the sites). Most accidents are connected with executions of works on heights, falling objects and excavations. Despite of improvements in H&S over the years, there are still a lot needs to be done. Human factor is the most important issue. There has been created many rules and measurements concerning H&S; there has been developed various protecting equipment and devices. But without responsible person/worker with proper imagination, mentality and knowledge there are useless. Hence no matter how many regulations, rules we could create if we do not learn proper habits, the accidents will be increasing instead of diminishing. The challenge for industry and vocational trainings is clear: minimalize to zero number of accidents by informing workers and construction employees all the time about H&S regulations; creating additional training tools (more attractive than ordinary H&S training) adjusted to ICT technology; getting into the habit of keeping in mind H&S rules. Project aims: creating mobile application/software - H&S learning kit, creating suitable methodology adjusted to mobile application, increasing awareness on safe behavior on the building sites; developing skills regarding acting in the safe way on the site; increasing Health and Safety on construction sites through improvement in communication between workers, increasing labour force mobility in European Union.
