North Ely and Stammhiem JH have had a long relationship of working and have provided cultural learning opportunities for over 600 young people in their communities in this time. The project 'On Our Doorstep' was designed after identification from various Health Surveys and Community Consultations, that young people are becoming less active and spending more and more time indoors. We identified different activities that promoted a healthier lifestyle and getting active, as well as, encourage learning and promote cultural awareness. These activities included: - Healthy outdoor and sporting activities - Hill/Coastal Walking, Bug Hunt/ biodiversity, swimming, rock-climbing. -Local educational visits to successful community projects that have developed community growing spaces, where local community members are growing and providing food for their local communities. the young people were able to see what could be done and develop skills and knowledge to do the same in their areas. This enabled the participants to create a green space and plant food for future cultivation. the participants learnt practical skills in recycling and DIY to create the green spaces in their respective countries. - The participants gained skill in preparing and cooking the food that has been grown from the seed and picked by the young people. This daily activity encouraged the young people to work together and improve on their learning and language skills. - Participants shared experiences of how they live and this included cultural visit to historic sites or places of interest and taking part in local/regional celebrations. We feel that the participants worked well together and everybody developed in their communication and shared ideas and showed respect towards each other, this in turn built up individuals self confidence and resilience in solving problems and working as part of a team.
