Improving educational quality in Turkey is related to the improvement of teachers’ vocational competences. Improving teacher competences is a national priority. Having a vital importance in education, it is important for teacher to renew himself/herself constantly according to current conditions, monitor changes in vocational field and making studies for personal development. The way to increase quality in education is built upon improvement of vocational competences teachers have. Changing conditions require improvement of teachers’ competences. In this context, our project aims to improve teachers’ existing levels of competence on the subject of foreign languages, mathematics education, science education, information technologies education, entrepreneurship education, citizenship education, assessment and evaluation methods, methods for increasing school success, combating sex discrimination, solving conflict and school management in schools in international field.
As a result of brainstorming with our teachers during the preparation of our project, our project idea came up. After that, at the meetings with our teachers, needs which will be source of our project’s development were determined. In our project ‘’Increasing Basic Levels of Competences in Schools’’ the objectives we want to reach are:
- To increase teachers’ levels of competences in foreign languages, mathematics, science and technology education,
- To learn how to make learning with IT,
- To gain teachers awareness of active citizenship,
- To increase teachers’ levels of IT and digital competences,
- To develop teachers and students’ learning to learn skills,
- To improve students’ basic competence levels,
- To learn assessment and evaluation techniques in Europe,
- To increase school success,
- To learn combating sex discrimination and ways to solve conflicts at school,
- To learn school management in Europe,
- To increase the quality of school and teacher,
- To gain good practices and sources in Europe to our country.
Our project’s target group is teachers at our school and teachers work at secondary schools level. Our target group is also students in these schools. Because increasing the quality of teachers with education will effect directly student success and improvement. So, our project’s important effect will be the increase in students’ success and improvement. Teachers who got training in Europe will give a new point of view to his/her students and contribute to the increase of basic levels of competence in our school.
Our teachers at school will work in project activities and mobilities. A ‘’Project management team’’ will be organised for planning project mobilities and project management. In 3 flows, there will be mobilities to Lithuania, Portugal and Germany. Teachers who will join these flows will be selected by using participant election forms which will be created with the framework of specified election criteria. 10 day trainings will be got in Germany, Lithuania and Portugal. Seven people will participate in each of the mobilities. The total number of participants to these three countries is 21.
As a result of information, skill, attitude and behaviors our participants gained in our project, it is planned to increase educational quality of our school and also make use of other schools by disseminating these gains. In order to present obtained gains and share them, 3 teacher education modules will be prepared as a result of trainings. Depending on these modules, a book ‘’Increasing Basic Levels of Competence in Schools in European Dimension’’ will be prepared. Also, 2 teacher training seminars will be organised for sharing gained information. In every level of our project meetings, presentations, discussions, brochures, posters will be often used as dissemination tools within the framework of the rules for visibility.
Our project will present its results in the light of experiences gained in the long term and information. Our school will continue its works to share the results of trainings and activities with other schools. In this sense, our school will always deal the subject of improving teacher competences in education as a national priority. By putting all the works in school’s strategic plans, it will continue its works of increasing institutional quality.
