Pupils of the second grades of the chosen technical courses at Střední odborná škola stavební a Střední odborné učiliště stavební Kolín were involved in the project „Odborná praxe žáků SOŠ a SOU stavebního Kolín na Slovensku“ – namely pupils of the course 39-41-L/02 Mechanic of Plumbing and Electrotechnical Systems (20 pupils in total) and pupils of the course 33-56-H/01 Joiner (14 pupils in total). The main goal of this project was the negotiation of specialized internships abroad, acquiring new experiences, skills, not only technical, but also social and cultural knowledge to understand the similarities of both nations for pupils of technical courses who often have a disadvantaged access to similar opportunities. The project supported the improvement of pupils specialized training and their job market positions. Another project goal was to deepen and to widen pupils' understanding of the world around them. Pupils of SOŠ a SOU stavební Kolín had a chance to get knew technical knowledge and skills in Slovakia through the realization of specialized internships in another European country. Pupils learned some new working techniques and tools required for a qualified future employment when entering the job market, they also had opportunities to work with devices we do not have at our school. Pupils deepened their abilities to adapt to new conditions, to intervene in those conditions in a creative way, to cope with various situations and problems and to be able to work in a team. Allowing participation in specialized internships abroad, we wanted to motivate our pupils to better study results and the awareness of the need to pursue lifelong learning, and that it is possible to find a job abroad. Pupils' interest in participating in specialized internships abroad exceeded the number of offered internships for pupils which is also a motivating factor - pupils try to achieve the best possible learning outcomes, to be more active in teaching. The project outcomes are: the specialized internships realization, the acquired skills and experiences, participants' reports of specialized internships, in which pupils evaluated the progress and benefits of specialized internships, the new contacts and the sense of belonging to the central European region. Pupils, who participated in specialized internships, were given the Europass Mobility in Czech and English language which is the document confirming their participation in specialized internship abroad. Mobilities took place at Spojená škola, Námestie SNP 5, Partizánske, Slovak Republic (pupils of the course Mechanic of Plumbing and Electrotechnical Systems) and at Stredná odborná škola, Poprad, Slovak Republic (pupils of the course Joiner). Information about the project realization was published in the local newspaper, posted on the school's website, it was given out during the Parents Night and during the Open House at school and at School Market events. This project has been significant not only for the pupils participating in these specialized internships, but for the whole school – a higher prestige has been acquired, there is more interest shown by elementary school pupils in entering the studies at SOŠ a SOU stavební Kolín, positive feedback to school activities for the general public, new business and personal contacts abroad.
