The school is applying for a grant for one English teacher to attend a course held by International Study Programmes and for this we intend to choose the English teacher with the least amount of teaching experience. The teacher will attend a course that both covers practical matters involving English teaching and English language skills, as well as provides an insight into English culture and educational system. This is in accordance to Akureyri Junior College‘s school vision and its policy of continuing education. Furthermore, in the school there is an emphasis on giving students an examplary language education and therefore we encourage our teachers to maintain their skills and increase their education through continuing education. This project will also further benefit other teaching staff, as the teacher attending the course will come back and present new ideas and methodologies that they have picked up, to the other teachers. Ideally that will then inspire more of our teachers to attend similiar continuing education courses, thereby providing the school with more international links that further enable cooperation across countries. Long term goals for MA (Akureyri Junior College) are to better utilise the options available to them through European cooperation to increase the staff‘s skills and job satisfaction, which in turns helps the school maintain their status as a first class academic secondary school that prepares its students for a university education, either here or abroad.
