The mobility project, New Methods and New Inspiration in Language Learning, aims to give English and language teachers new knowledge and inspiration. For several years we have seen that student's motivation to learn foreign languages have been low. On the other hand we see that employers see the need for employees with extensive language knowledge. English is to an increasing extent used as a language of business and science. In addition more and more of the curricula of higher education is in English, also at Norwegian universities. Good English skills are therefore very important. Germany is our most important trade partner, and as such knowledge of German is highly sought after by many Norwegian companies. This also applies to French and Spanish, because of an increasing trade, especially in the fishing industry, recruiting employees with a good knowledge of these languages is important. It is therefore of the utmost importance to motivate our students to study foreign languages. To do this we want to make language learning more relevant by developing innovative techniques to enhance student's motivation, and to show them that learning foreign languages are important to their future studies and careers. To do this it is important that the language teachers have updated knowledge of the language they teach. Sending language teachers to the countries where the language they teach is spoken will give them inspiration, and contribute to improving their knowledge of cultural and social aspects of the relevant countries. Our aim is that they will develop new, entrepreneurial teaching methods to make language learning more relevant for the students and their future. We also aim to further develop cooperation between language teachers in the county of Sør-Trøndelag. We will do this by spreading the new methods specifically to our partner school Trondheim Katedralskole, but also to the other language teachers in the county, through our existing network. The mobility project is in accordance with Thora Storm's pedagogical platform, where it is emphasized that the school wants to stimulate creativity and innovation, the use of new teaching methods that encourages cooperation, and make teaching more relevant by using examples that are close to reality to show the students the link between theory and practice. The language teachers' participation in the project will contribute to a professional and academic update of both the individual teacher and the language department as a whole. The mobility project will contribute to a better quality of the language teaching in the school and further develop the teachers' abilities of following up the main areas of the curriculum for foreign languages. It is an important goal that language skills necessary for a variety of communication situations are to be improved.
