PROJET
TERMINÉ
The project New skills, New opportunities is based on the need to improve one’s knowledge and acquire new skills, new knowledge and experiences as well as professional and key competences in one’s field of expertise. Additionally, the transfer of newly acquired knowledge, skills and competences into daily practice, the comparison between existing practices and deeper cooperation among partner schools and companies, which organise on-the-job learning, have also guided us when designing our project.
Among the participants were twenty-two logistics and safety and security students, seven specific subjects teachers, four company mentors, a special needs accompanying person. All the participants took an active part in practical instruction and on-the-job learning.
By taking an active part in the mobility, our participants have become more flexible and interesting on the labour market, have learned about and have used new technologies and solutions in their fields of expertise, have used modern information-communication technology (ICT) to monitor, to report about and to disseminate the results of the project.
Based on the learning units, learning outcomes, the professional and key competences learning situations were designed by our Finnish partners, which enabled participants to perform tasks independently by using different working methods.
Logistics students participated in the following activities: loading and unloading cargo using simulators; driving different vehicles and following traffic regulations using simulators; vehicle maintenance; protective equipment usage; operating forklifts; order picking; planning transportation route; loading, fastening and unloading cargo; cargo delivery; preparing cargo space on a vehicle; using navigational devices; using hand terminals and computers in a warehouse.
Safety and security students participated in the following activities: analysing fire risks; analysing dangers while extinguishing a fire; extinguishing small fires by using a fire extinguisher and a fire blanket; learning about mechanical security systems and working with mechanical security systems; working in video-control room; working with x-ray/magnetic doors; patrolling the premises; learning about safety and security of industrial objects and public events; practising safety and health at work; learning how to apply first aid; keeping fit; writing reports; comparing the organisation of safety and security in Slovenia and Finland.
Specific subjects teachers and company mentors participated in different activities and used different working methods during their mobility. They introduced good practice examples to their Finnish colleagues; participated in the implementation of practical instruction at schools; compared Slovene and Finnish organization of the on-the-job learning, methods and didactical approaches, communication among students and company mentors, student motivation and good practices examples; participated in evaluation and self-evaluation processes during mobility and at its end; helped students with their tasks; encouraged students to demonstrate their theoretical knowledge, encouraged students to write reports; helped students to prepare presentations and skills demonstrations.
Organised activities helped all the participants: to learn about different cultures; to use ICT and to communicate in foreign language; to compare educational systems.
The following results have been achieved: knowledge and skills improvement; professional and key competences development; real life and professional situations knowledge application; real-life working environment and activities improvement; flexibility; understanding and acceptance of various cultures; using a foreign language as a communication tool; using information-communication technology; understanding the importance of life-long learning; equality and inclusion awareness.
The project's impact has also been seen in: professional and personal growth of the participants; improved ways of organising practical instruction at school and on-the-job learning; deepened constructive formal and non-formal cooperation with employers, better cooperation between mobility partners, improved recognition of learning mobility and higher number of potential participants.
The participation in the project has also influenced our participants’ understanding of the fact that we live in different cultural and linguistic surroundings. We are certain that our students and teachers are aware that differences should be embraced and understood and that people should be helped during integration processes. We believe that raising awareness, understanding and accepting multicultural differences is the long-term effect of our project. We also believe that the results of our project will help to create more standardized practical instruction system and on-the-job learning in the field of logistics and safety and security Europe wide.
