Non Formal Education of The Physically Handicapped in Sport

The training course of the mobility of youth workers, “Non Formal Education of The Physically Handicapped in Sport” consisting of seven working days was held in Çanakkale, Turkey between 26th April and 3rd May, 2016. In this project prepared with the partnership of youth associations working with disadvantaged young people from Italy, Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Georgia, Romania, Bulgaria, Latvia, Poland and Turkey, 21 participants took part with a balanced distribution. The training course included trainings focusing on the problems of social inclusion of in general disabled young people, in particular physically disabled ones. Our project which was concentrating on the topics of “sport and physical activities with the disabled”, aimed at increasing active citizenship, the participation to the society and democratic life of disabled young people, supporting employment opportunities, , improving individual development, self confidence, basic skills, the abilities and qualifications, contributing to their awareness on healthy lifestyle. In pursuit of these objectives, disabled youngsters, young and active volunteers working with disabled young people, trainers and youth leaders with a manager of project partner non-governmental organizations working with disabled young people participated in the project. All project participants was formed by economically or socially disadvantaged ones who had not been able to join this kind of projects before. Also three participants were using whellchairs two of whom were young volunteers and one of whom was a facilitator. It aimed at developing the skills, abilities and competences of the project participants in the way to provide the evolution of the young people with disabilities in the project topics. Contribution was enabled to the professional competences, teaching skills, intercultural awareness, knowledge and feelings on European subjects, social and linguistic skills, and the capacities of the participants to meet the needs of the disabled young people and their families; support was provided to their management motivations and willingness. Within this evolution about the participants, it also aimed at increasing the capacity of the project partner organizations, strengthening their institutional structure and good management skills, providing more qualified and attractive programs compatible with the needs and expectations of the youth and volunteers, progressing on European dimension and being able to develop cooperation on European networks, being able to apply more effective, more qualified and improved youth works in their locals and strengthening their cooperation with their other stakeholders.In line with this objectives, the partnership of the project determined on the activities related to each other, complementary and planned. The inclusion of the participants and volunteers even to the determination of the activities was provided as done on the other events. Preparatory studies realized by the participants and participating associations were planned in the way to adapt with project main activities and dissemination and exploitation activities. This planning enabled positive effects on the project partner organizations, participants, final target groups, local community and stakeholders. Also the plans had been organized to create partnership network on European dimension and announce the project results to the widest crowd of people with the aims of being able to sustain the benefits and improvement even after the project granting term, develop new projects and cooperation between the partner organizations, having permanent and accessible results, extending the partnership with the local stakeholders. During the project, sport and physical activities with disabled, social inclusion of the young people with disabilities, understanding about the situation and differences on disabled young people and sport on their locals, local observations and examinations, intercultural awareness, and personal improvement activities were carried out. While carrying out the project, non-formal education techniques were used like practical workshops, brain storming, question-answer, drama and role playing, educational games, learning from each other, pair and group works. Some precautions were planned to enable the active participation of the participants and included in the decisions. After each activities in the project, daily and general evaluations took place. The participants received youth pass at the end of the project and were encouraged to be active with the project communication tools in order to let their personal improvement be observable after the project.
