Next stop: non-formal education!

Youth exchange “Next stop: non-formal education!” will gather together 20 youth and 5 leaders from Latvia, the Netherlands, Estonia, Spain and Greece to promote the non-formal education, youth activation and active leisure time in rural areas trough creative workshops, mixed culture and national group works, cultural events, information campaigns, media and self-expression. The activities will take place in the small towns or villages of Vidzeme Baltic sea coast. Working together youngsters will transform the local bus stops into the “stages of art”, but its surroundings into the “one day youth centers” to raise the awareness of the possibilities that non-formal education can bring. In every day work, during the 9 days of event, from 9 till 18 July, 2012, participants will learn to cooperate on daily bases not only creating and preparing workshops and presentations for the town visits, but also planning and fulfilling the daily duties like cooking, cleaning, sailing etc. as a result practicing planning, implementing, cooperation, problem solving, inclusion and differences and similarities of different cultures.During the project we hope to raise the awareness of reality in rural areas. To see in practice how different youth spend their free time and learn new ideas from each other. The impressions will be captured in the photos, videos and the internet blog by the youngsters. These materials will be also used to create a movie about the non-formal education and its possibilities to promote non-formal education in rural areas.The participants will travel from Estonia’s border down to Riga using alternative means of transportation like catamaran/yacht promoting also the green thinking means of transportation and breaking the stereotypes that sailing is a splendid leisure only for rich people. After the project there will be the presentation of film, made by projects' participants as another tool to increase the discourse about youth situation in rural areas.
