NEWFOR - NEW technologies for a better mountain FORest timber mobilization (NEWFOR)
Date du début: 31 août 2011, Date de fin: 30 août 2014 PROJET  TERMINÉ

The role played by mountain forests is extremely varied. Their contributions to the stability and overall development of life and economic factors in mountainous regions are highly significant. Due mainly to topographic conditions, managing mountain forests is significantly more cost intensive than in plain ones. A good knowledge of forest biomass location, characteristics, mobilization conditions and connectivity to wood industry is a prerequisite for the development of a sustainable timber supply chain in mountain territories. This knowledge is currently insufficient to provide at reasonable costs, the required guarantees on the wood supply and on its sustainability. Based on the use of new technologies for forest and topography characterization, NEWFOR is dedicated to enhance and develop tools and adapted policies for decision making in the field of a sustainable and adaptive mountain forest resources management facing the sustainability of mountain forest ecosystems services. Achievements: The activities made during this reporting period are majority concerning the setting up of the Expression of Interest, the initial and final versions of the project Application Form. The first task has been the building up of the partners network (14 partners). The second one has been the setup of the administrative documents using an email forum and also a Project Partner Meeting (22/02/2011). After the integration of the recommendation of the Alpine Space Join Technical Secretary, the final version of the project application form has been accepted. The Partnership Agreement has been signed. Since the acceptance date, the lead partner has worked on the implementation of a project management system. The Project Kick Off Meeting has been organized and held in Innsbruck the 15-16/09/2011. A common template for the timesheets with automatic sum up of hours by workpackage (WP) and month has been set up. The initial road maps of the two first thematic WP have been established.http://www.alpine-space.eu/projects/running-projects/?tx_txrunningprojects_pi1[uid]=36&tx_txrunningprojects_pi1[view]=singleView
