TERMINÉ
The teaching staff at the primary school in Kaindorf an der Sulm consists of highly dedicated teachers. In February 2014 a new headmistress, who enjoys exploring new and different paths in education, joined the school team. English language is being taken as the core area for the start of such a new path. Feedback from parents has often revealed, that an improvement of the English language classes would be highly important. Skype conferences between the headmistress and eTwinning partners have also pointed out the necessity of effective English language classes at school. In order to find new paths for language instruction, diverse and student-focused methods need to be found. At the same time there is also a need for teachers to take on a different stance towards language education.
Two mobility activities were aimed at in order to initiate such a change in language education.
A new teacher at the school is currently engaged in the topic of “new ways within English language education“. This activity is supposed to widen her linguistic and her methodological skills. This should also encourage the continuation of her work at the school.
Due to the course „Teaching English – Motivating Learners and Preparing for CLIL“, that took place in Cyprus, teachers got the possibility to broaden their knowledge regarding to new ways of integrating a foreign language into foreign language teaching as well as daily school routine. During the course the participants were enabled to learn about simple, effective and playful ways of introducing and extending language knowledge and integrating concepts of the CLIL approach into foreign language teaching. Beside all these practical and theoretical input the participants improved their personal language knowledge and gained more selfconfidence in speaking a foreign language. All these factors are supposed to guarantee interesting and motivating ways of learning a foreign language at an early age.
The second mobility activity was lead by the headmistress who visited different primary schools in Finland as part of a study visit. She engaged herself with new methods of education in order to develop new possibilities for her own school. Conversations with colleagues from other European countries enabled the participants to discover their own strengths and weaknesses within their own work. After these mobilities participants are looking for new ways of teaching, especially teaching foreign languages.
Also their linguistic skills should be widen.
Both activities are to be seen as a support network for new, innovative, and student-focused teaching.
