Forum for Freedom in Education implemented project "Non-violent communication - a path for growth in youth work" that was financed by the European Union through the Youth in Action Programme, sub-action 4.3 – training course with the amount of 20.297,84 Euros.The project was implemented with the aim of improving communication skills and ability to support young people through learning nonviolent communication skills in the eight-day training course. Training course as a central activity of the project was held in Crikvenica from 26th of August to 3rd of September 2011. There were altogether 27 participants (young people and youth workers) from 5 European countries – Hungary, Italy, Spain, Portugal and Croatia. Participants of the training were learning and improving skills and competencies that will support them in their youth work. Special emphasis of the training was development of tolerance and promoting anti-discrimination, as well as encouraging creativity to create new ideas for initiatives and entrepreneurship. Through the training, participants learned and practiced skills that empower young people to a better knowledge about themselves, to more effective communication and by that improve success in their private and professional life. The training was an opportunity for participants coming from different social and cultural backgrounds to exchange experience in the field of nonformal and informal education for youth.Methods used during the training were all the methods of non-formal and informal learning – debates, games, exercises and working in pairs and groups, role plays, imagination, inspiring interviews, surveys, etc. It also included informal part with a series of organized activities for socializing and getting to know participants, as well as one study trip to Rijeka, where participants visited local youth organizations and Mediation Center.The project resulted in improved competence of participants on a personal level and in the field of providing support to young people and encourage young people that participated in the project on a more active role and contribution to the communities in which they, live, work and act.
