The project A TEACHER TAILORED FOR EUROPE will be developed in Junior High School no. 16 in Zabrze. The school creates conditions for its’ students’ comprehensive education. Students are able to expand their knowledge and improve their abilities not only by attending lessons, but also during additional after-school classes. The aim of the school is to educate a graduate who is both, a patriot respecting national values, as well as a young European, tolerant and open to other cultures and nations, and will find themselves in the EU easily. Teaching foreign languages is an important aspect for the school. Junior High School no. 16 is the only school in Zabrze which offers so called bilingual English classes (students have more English lessons than other learners, they learn Biology, Chemistry and Geography in English). The second foreign language taught in the school is German. What is more, students can learn Russian and French during extra-curricular activities. Every August, at the end of school year, the board of teachers establishes School’s Development Plan which determines courses of action in the following school year. Teachers taking part in the project found the Development Plan useful to identify the needs of the school, its' students and of their own. It helped them to set the goals of the project. Three main areas for improvement were determined: 1. Early school leaving / combating failure in education 2. ICT – new technologies – digital competences 3. International cooperation, internal relations, development cooperation There are 5 teachers involved in the project: English, German, Russian, and 2 Maths teachers. They will take part in intensive language acquisition and teacher training courses. Taking part in the above mentioned courses will allow to improve the teachers’ language competences. The teachers will be provided with practical teaching ideas and new methods. The school’s data base will be enriched with new teaching material adequate to the needs of its’ students. The teachers will gain confidence, refresh their personal knowledge and improve the quality of their teaching. It will have a positive impact on the students who will be more motivated to come to school, attend in the lessons more actively and see the importance of learning foreign languages. Teachers will have the opportunity to get to know educators from other European countries with whom they will develop European mobility projects and other cooperation activities in the future. It will impact the European dimension of the school. Teachers will also be more competent in managing projects thanks to which the school will improve its experience in carrying out European projects. Moreover, due to the fact that the teachers will be introduced to modern ICT techniques, they will be able to teach their students to search for, collect, process and use information in their learning process. Participation in the project will impact the functioning of the school. It will integrate the teachers thanks to mutual creating the application form and the realisation of the project. It will motivate other teachers to take part in various European projects actively. The teachers will improve their competence in foreign languages and it will make the level of education higher. The benefits of participating in European programmes will be promoted outside the school as an excellent example of teacher’ personal development during methodological meetings and educational fairs. General information concerning ERASMUS+ programme and the project A TEACHER TAILORED FOR EUROPE as an example of good practice will be presented during a conference organised for headmasters and teachers from other schools. Moreover, the same information will be shared with teachers taking part in contests and celebrations organised by the school when possible. The logo of the ERASMUS+ programme with some basic information and links to useful web pages and results of the project will be published in the school’s promotion leaflet, on the school information board, in the school magazine for parents and on the school’s website. Teachers’ participation in different forms of training abroad is prestigious for their school. The school is then perceived as an organization open to Europe. It will lead to the increase of recruitment and opening classes of new profiles in the future. Making new acquaintances with other teachers from Europe will result in cooperation and creating new international projects in which the students will also take part and improve their knowledge of foreign languages. Teachers will gain new abilities which will help them to make their lessons more attractive and their students more involved and motivated. It will reflect in better results from the Junior High School Exam.
