Engels De Dubbelster uses a 3-year plan of action for the Early Language Learning (ELL)-English. By participating in the Pilgrims Course ‘Methodoloy & Language For Primary Teachers, teachers can give content to this plan of action. An important aspect is the further implementation of ELL-English. Developing their competencies in reading, writing, speaking and listening in English will enable our teachers to improve their English teaching. Furthermore, our teachers can use the obtained competencies for the communication during the Schoolpartnership (KA2), which the Dubbelster will be part of. The Pilgrims Course will enable the Dubbelster to broaden its opportunities as a certified EarlyBird school. There are ten teachers of our school that will participate in the course. They will strengthen their competencies by participating in the following training activities: teaching the four skills (listening, reading, writing and speaking); creative activities, classroom management skills; chants, rhymes and songs + storytelling, drama and music; using communicative learning activities in Primary teaching contexts; pronunciation work (through children's songs and rhymes); work on grammar and vocabulary; language for the classroom; building confidence in teaching in and through English - particulary through drama activities. Another valuable aspect of the course is that our staff will stay at an English family, which gives them the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the culture and the standards and values of the English society. The course aims to provide the teachers with state of the art theories and practice in teaching. In addition, the strong language element embedded will result in an improvement of their English language skills. Not only the quality of our English education will improve by means of the course, the self-confidence of our staff will be strengthened as well. Classroom integrated learning (CLIL) activities will become broader and more varied. Also the use of ICT within our school will increase. The course will lead to a much stronger foundation for our next 3-yearplan. Students and parents will benefit from the improved quality of our English education and they will acknowledge the added value of ELL-English. De Dubbelster appears frequently in the media, like the news, the local newspaper and the local broadcasting station. Hereby we aim to explain the added value of ELL-English in the context of world citizenship. Via the media mentioned above we will share our achievements realised with the Pilgrims course, supported by the European Platform. As an EarlyBird school we measure our achievements and educational quality frequently. Class visits, class observations and training days that aim to improve our education of the English language. External observations and research by, among others, the foundation EarlyBird will take place in order to secure the quality of our education.
