Our school provides English lessons for all children in pré-school, school and after school programs. The importance of early English is a growing issue en is being implemented in more schools in the Netherlands.Goal of the project is improving teacher skills in language and methodology. Our school is situated in a new city area and grows fast. In the next five years the amount of children in our school will ben doubled. Therefore we need new teachers every year for the next few years. We would like to educate those teachers at Pilgrims in Canterbury to keep improving our quality of teaching in English. The course improves ability and confidence in their use of English and developes teaching skills for young learners. They will be trained in teaching listening, reading, writing, and conversation, in classroom management skills. In chants, rhymes and songs, storytelling, drama and music. They do pronunciation work, work on grammar and vocabulary and language for classroom use. Even integration of other school subjects in English leraning is being practised. (CLIL)A school visit is part of the program and there are posibilities for extra workshops.Goa; of the course is improving language skills and methodology. The results are proven by earlier students. Teachers are more confident and have improved their own skills in English and know lots of activities to do in their classrooms. They are more enthousiastic about teaching in English than before the course. In the end it will all lead to higher quality of English language skills of our pupils. We expect out pupils to reach A2 level befor they go to secundary school. This wil create oppertunities to join in international projects with other primary schools. At the moment we have international students in our school to communicate in English with our young learners. In the long term it will improve the quality of our education and the international (european) orientated citizenship of our pupils.
