The Ignacy Jan Paderwski Secondary School in Skorzewo is a rural school, located in the suburbs of Poznan, in Gmina Dopiewo.
There are 42 teachers and 5 classes on each of three educational levels. The school is situated in a milieu created by people with higher education, high career ambitions concerning both them and their children, which results in great expectations towards school education offer.
The teaching staff is a group of people open to changes, willing to improve their qualifications and take on new challenges.
Every year there are Polish-French and Polish-German Student Exchanges that enable learners to get to know the French and German language and culture as well as popularize the Polish culture. Our future aim is to widen cooperation with partner schools adding a school from an English-speaking country.
Our students take part in projects realizing with the use of funds from the European Social Fund: Student online – modern technology at school, Good school, better internship, excellent teacher – Preparing schools and internship coordinators to work with chemistry students, Youngster – program of fostering equal educational opportunities for young people from rural areas by learning English, We Teach the Great of Tomorrow. Extracurricular Classes for Secondary School Students. Hence, there is also a need for teachers’ in-service training.
The object of the project is to improve the quality of work by increasing teaching staff language competence. 18 teachers, including specialists such as the educator, the psychologist and the career counselor, are willing to participate in the project. It is going to start with studying English and Scots in a practical way using learning education platform and/or in-company courses. While learning, project participants regarding their qualifications and interests are going to prepare and present publications concerning culture, history, tradition, education system and natural environment of the destination country. The next stage is going to concern language courses in Great Britain.
Expecting results of teachers’ participation in the project:
- implementing some elements of English in lessons and extra-curricular activities as well as classes given by specialist (the educator, the psychologist and the career counselor), some vocabulary and pronunciation aspects of Scots in English lessons and extra-curricular classes
- running the school website in English
- natural communication between teaching staff and their counterparts from international exchanges from France and Germany
- activating and motivating students to learn English
- enriching art performances in school ceremonies with some English elements
- developing the interest in British culture
- interdisciplinary support of the student of low educational potential by activating the foreign language
- motivating the gifted student to make higher educational effort at the subsequent educational level – bilingual classes and international baccalaureate
The expected result of our specialists’ participation (the educator, the psychologist and the career counselor) is the possibility to study professional literature in English which will contribute to:
- learners and parents’ acquisition of the skill of planning educational stages in high schools and universities in order to make a good choice recognizing the demands of the job market in English-speaking countries of The European Union
- increasing the educational chances of students with special educational needs by developing the student’s individual potential and ability to learn with the use of modern neurodidactical methods
- developing the teachers’ capability to make appropriate decisions in conflict situations in school environment, dealing with pupils’ aggression and take corrective and preventive actions
